AFC Stoneham in Kenya
We are delighted to announce that the club is creating new AFC Stoneham teams in Kenya as we introduce young players to organised football and coaching.
Our club coach, Jacob, arrived in a small village called Guu just outside of Oyugis in Western Kenya this week.
Jacob has volunteered for a charity which is a home for teenage mothers where they can stay, study and play football whilst learning how to better look after their babies. The charity also helps the boys in the village by running football training and various classes.
Jacob under AFC Stoneham is now heading up the football coaching for both male and females until Christmas.
The project has already created two new "AFC Stoneham - Kenya" teams registered under the Kenyan FA. One team for boys and one for girls.
The boys are aged between 15 and 18 and the girls 16 and 18, both will play 11-a-side
with the first friendlies due to be played next weekend after a couple of weeks training. All kit and equipment is being donated by AFC Stoneham.
Jacob is also hoping to run a younger boys team very soon which is currently work in progress.
Jacob said" The kids are brilliantly talented but most of them have never been coached. Most have never worn football boots or even been to a proper pitch. AFC Stoneham is the talk of the village and thanks to the donation I am seeing purple everywhere !"
This is a wonderful initiative for the club and Jacob is undoubtedly a superstar representing AFC Stoneham in such a fantastic way.
Jacob will be updating the club with reports on a regular basis up to Christmas.
We all very much look forward to the progress of this fantastic project!
Thank you
