PAN DISABILITY AND NEW DEAF TEAM

Pan Disability football and New Deaf Team

AFC Stoneham is proud to be a fully inclusive and diverse club. We are therefore delighted to announce that we will be creating a new Pan Disability pathway structure in 2024.

The first team to become part of the pathway will be our new Deaf Team who will start training on January 9th.

We already have a few players and are currently looking for any other players who may be interested in joining the team.

In addition to our Deaf Team we will soon be announcing details of our first Pan Disability sessions in January which we very much hope will lead to new players joining the club and forming additional groups and teams.

As always, the club is looking for volunteers and support for our new initiative. Anyone interested or wishing to obtain more details please contact :

chairman@afcstoneham.co.uk

Rob 07525649136

Mark 07841696579

We would like to take the opportunity to thank Hampshire FA for their help and support towards our club in moving this fantastic initiative forward.

AFC Stoneham is very excited about the future growth of both our Pan Disability pathway and our new Deaf Team.

Thank you

WEEKEND ROUND UP: DEC 9/10

WEEKEND ROUND UP

U8 Wolves v AFC Stoneham Spitfires

Another Stoneham Derby, with the Spitfires in Purple vs the Red Wolves looking to apply more pressure and position ourselves to pounce at the right the time.

The Spitfires got ahead early on with a corner nicked in at the near post, but Shay, Harry, Fyfe and Jack worked themselves back into the game and pushed for an equaliser. Jasper made some decent stops to see out a tight quarter.

Jacob defended well with the ball on the ground but the fast bounce on the astro caused us trouble. Vinnie pressed from the front and Harry and Louie were combative in midfield but two quick fire goals gave us a real uphill struggle.

Q3 we saw more of the ball, and a couple of good chances went close before the highlight of the game for Wolves. A free kick from distance gave Fyfe a chance to set his sights and he delivered a beauty to give us a shout going into the last 10.

We huffed and puffed, but couldn't blow the Spitfires house down and they well deserved the result today with a couple more either end of Q4.

We've had better days, and will in the future so the Wolves will dust themselves down and hope to see 2023 out on a high next week. Shay was solid at the back and Jasper made some good stops on top of his great distribution and so they took the players of the match.

U9 Panthers v Winsor Utd Youth Red

The Panthers were on fire today despite the rain and miserable weather. They stayed warm by passing quickly and both teams played at a fast pace making the game entertaining for all the soggy supporters.

Fraser kept a clean sheet with lots of impressive saves and was awarded Man of the Match. We saw a fantastic assist and goal from Billy and a hat trick from Manny with further assists from Freddie and Cooper.

A great team performance all round!

U9 Eagles v AFC Stoneham Hurricanes

A cold but dry 3pm U9 derby game today for the Stoneham Eagles against Stoneham Hurricanes. The boys started strong straight off the bat with Albert getting a shot on target within minutes of starting the game. He was a force across the pitch from the get go and he was constantly on the ball which meant a good start for us.

Kian was constant attacking on all his quarters and was hard to catch up front.

Julius was perfectly placed at times on the pitch and this was very clear to see when he managed to get a well-deserved first goal of the season!

As per usual our defence was phenomenal across the back, Quinn made 11 successful passes and stopped shots towards goal so this earned him man of the match. Jenson was hard to beat and managed to hit the back of the net with a wonder strike from long range but unfortunately the whistle blew as it left his foot, cancelling a superb finish. Wali also stayed strong across the back.

Leo was putting some excellent kicks in and worked hard across the field and James was constantly attacking and made some excellent forward runs. Freddie managed to put himself near the goal constantly and was able to put a shot in.

Harry made some excellent saves and was strong in goal.

Billy put on a good show across the pitch and helped with some good assists and also his own goal.

So far this season the boys have proved they are a team to be reckoned with and should be proud of how far they have come. It's fantastic to watch this well gelled team and see the work Will and Andy have put in at training come to fruition!!!

U12 Wolves v Winsor United White

Wolves overcame the pressure that comes with expectation to eventually beat Winsor 5-0 at a windy Stoneham Lane today.

Winsor started strongly, packing the midfield and preventing our forward passes, although Wolves still created chances through Evan who provided threat with his pace down the right and Talal who always shows skilful touches down the left.

But for once, more composure in front of goal was needed and 0-0 at half time was probably a fair scoreline.

Second half and Wolves were now learning the importance of patience whilst keeping possession more and making stronger passes. Our high levels of fitness were also now making the difference and it wasn't long before a through ball from Adam gave a goal for Ahmed and a directed clearance from Alfie set up Frankie for a goal from distance.

Dominik was then called on to make a great save, before Talal scored from a Muhammed corner and Frankie cut in from the right to add his second.

The introduction of Dylan's dribbling down the left and Harry's awareness in midfield then added yet more creative options.

Dominik made two more fine saves before Evan made it five for the Wolves with a fierce volley from close range.

The defensive four of Rayane, Jude, Alfie and Dominik were all outstanding today in helping to keep the clean sheet. Rayane also added to his skills by dribbling from deep to finish with a shot, Jude's positioning was excellent today while he was also strong and committed in every challenge, Alfie's key interceptions together with his improved distribution made him our Wolf of the Week, while Dominik's saves at key moments in the game were crucial to the outcome.

Congratulations to the whole team!

U14 Spitfires v Sarisbury Sparks

The boys came up against the team immediately below us in the league so crucial they got a positive result, and that they did.

After a couple of bad recent results we wanted the boys to get a result their efforts deserve and after a 1st half with very little chances for either team we went in 0-0 at the break.

2nd half we looked a better outfit moving the ball around nicely with a few chances being created but could not get that opening until…….. Harry Halligan after being tripped on 2 occasions kept the ball and out of frustration for not getting a foul kicked the ball away which landed perfectly at the feet of Harley Marjason who on the outside of the box looped his shot over their keeper into the back of the net. A lead the boys deserved.

Sarisbury got an equaliser against the run of the play but this fired the boys up who immediately responded when Charlie Gray’s mis-hit shot turned into an amazing assist landing perfectly for Ethan Cripps to poke home restoring our lead, 2-1.

This was the final score and some last ditch defending with players throwing their bodies on the line to keep Sarisbury out got the deserved win for the boys.

Some excellent performances today but what was pleasing was the togetherness in the 2nd half and determination to win.

POM went to Charlie Gray who was excellent with some great skills on show, superb assist and constant chasing/closing down all over the pitch. Special mention to Ethan Cripps who worked tirelessly upfront and got a goal his efforts deserved.

U14 AFC Stoneham Athletic away to Millbrook in the Hampshire cup.

Gutted for the lads to concede a late goal but we hope they are all as proud of themselves as we are of them. They fought for each other, worked hard with and without the ball and went toe to toe with Millbrook. Great attitude before, during and after the game Thanks as usual for the help running the line etc, to Charlie, who along with Toby had a great first competitive game, after stepping in late and to the United lads that supported.

Well done

Great performance by all of our teams who played....well done!!

SUNDAY ROUND UP: DEC 3RD

Sunday round up – 3rd December 2023

U8 Wolves v Wellow

The Wolves were looking to break out of a difficult patch of results with today's match against Wellow. Top scorer Ollie unavailable for this one so the boys were tasked with replacing his goal threat.

We started poorly and found ourselves 2 down early on with Wellow breaking the press and isolating Jacob 2v1. We soon got wise to it and worked our way back into Q1 when Harry made half a yard and drilled his shot into the corner. Shay led the line from the start and his physicality caused problems for the Wellow defense with Fyfe nearly benefitting from his hold up play on several occasions with long range efforts.

Jack, Vinnie and Louie came in for Q2 and adjusted our positions to a more defensive style and despite an onslaught from Wellow held firm with Jasper pulling off some fine stops and Jacob making some excellent tackles.

Wellow turned the screw in Q3 and took control of the game with a couple of excellent strikes from distance that gave Jasper no chance.

We still felt we could get back into the game and after a further worldie from Wellow, Jack broke free at pace and finished with style. From here the game ebbed and flowed with more goals at both ends. Louie closed down every ball from the front and Shay stepped forward from a defensive midfield position to hammer home for his first of the season. Fyfe, who had been trying his luck all day, lobbed the keeper with great technique but for every goal we mustered Wellow had another long ranger in their locker and could have had a couple more without Jasper's top drawer reflexes.

Another example of a pleasing performance with a disappointing result. We're seeing the things we're training happen on the pitch and playing good football, just getting unstuck by great shooting! Players of the Match went to Louie and Jacob today both sticking to their task calmly, winning the ball and getting us playing.

The Wolves will keep hunting!

U9 Eagles v AFC Stoneham Falcons

The rain cleared just in time for kick off of the first of two consecutive Stoneham v Stoneham games.

The Eagles used the occasion to showcase just how much they have developed since last season, both individually and as a team.

With an unbelievable work rate on show from them all, they moved up and down the pitch at a pace that most teams would struggle to compete with. It was particularly encouraging to see such impressive link up play, with one example certainly a contender for our best team goal of the season so far.

With 76 successfully completed passes between the team, it's unsurprising that we saw 6 different players with assists, well done James, Billy, Quinn, Jenson, Julius and Kian!

Albert had a fantastic afternoon in front of goal, creating numerous opportunities through determined drives down the left wing. Freddie, Kian and James also enjoyed their afternoon in the last third.

Harry bravely battled feeling under the weather and contributed with a couple of fantastic saves before the discomfort became too much for him, allowing Leo to kindly sacrifice his outfield quarter to support the team and protect our net.

Wali, Quinn and Jenson were resolute in winning the ball back in front of our goal and calmly starting off the flowing passes that took us up the pitch.

Well done Billy on a man of the match performance, centered on positive forward play, 12 successfully completed passes and 2 fine assists.

Finally, congratulations Wali on picking up November's Player of the Month trophy for his continual hard work, incredible attitude and dedicated application. November saw Wali make 7 critical tackles/interceptions and the defensive contribution to the team has really helped us push on in the last couple of months.

Go Eagles!

U12 Spitfires v Totton and Eling

The U12 Spitfires were back to their best with a great performance against Totton and Eling this morning. All of the boys played their part in a 8 nil victory playing some great football. Although not having many saves to make, keeper Carmel was on his toes to make some good clearances, as well as playing it out confidently from the back. Defenders James, Forbes and Adam were as solid as ever at the back, covering each other well, getting some good defensive headers in, and linking up well with the midfield. Alfie L and Alfie B controlled the centre of midfield, winning tackles, driving forwards and playing some great balls through to the strikers. Bushy and Tobias terrorised the Totton defence, making attacking runs down the wings and playing some great balls into the box. Strikers Freds, Ethan and Charlie held up the ball well, linked up well on a tight pitch, and made some penetrating runs. Alfie Lomas started the scoring in the first half with a great left foot strike into the top corner, soon followed by a goal from Freddie who brought the ball down well in the box, and composed himself before slotting the ball into the bottom right corner. Alfie L got his second of the game before half time, skilfully knocking the ball over the top of an advancing keeper. Totton started brightly in the second half with some good play. Bushy then made a great run down the left wing and crossed the ball across the face of the goal where Alfie L was running in to score his hat trick. Bushy then scored two outstanding goals with his trusty left foot, smashing the ball across the keeper into the corner of the net. Defender James then got in on the act with a confident penalty, and then made a driving run into the box to smash the ball into the net to make it 8 nil. The Totton keeper should be commended for some great saves throughout the match. Man of the match went to Alfie L for his runs from midfield and his three goals. Well done boys.

U13 Jaguars 2 - 6 Bursledon Supernovas

For the second successive game the Jaguars left it until half time to start to play, surrendering a 4-0 goal league in meek fashion before the interval.

Both collectively and individually the Jaguars walked their way through the first half, and were found wanting as a defensive unit.

The second half was a markedly different affair. Charlie sparkled after being switched to the wide right position and he, Matteo, Jamie, Freddie and Tyler worked some wonderful combinations. The Jaguars struck first: Tiago’s corner was drilled in, and with Daniel’s run to the near post drawing the defenders, the ball landed at the feet of Matteo whose finish kissed the underside of the bar. Despite another individual defensive mistake leading to the hosts’ fifth goal, the Jaguars continued to play some really wonderful following football, often with Tyler as the fulcrum, particularly down the right side, and following an overlap from Jamie, Charlie started a move and then finished it with aplomb, lobbing the goalkeeper from 20 yards. Another defensive mistake shortly after handed Bursledon their sixth goal, but it didn’t deter the Jaguars who carved out numerous other good chances with their two and three touch football.

A deeply frustrating first half and a second half display full of offensive menace and controlled football. If the Jaguars can be more consistent in their approach to the game from the outset then the results will follow.

U14 Sharks 6 – 2 Hedge End Falcons

MotM - Crofton

PMotM - McPherson

Fantastic performance today, probably the best performance yet with every player playing well and genuinely contributing. Three players were stuck in traffic so we played the first 20 mins with 10 players. Despite this, we held our own and looked the more likely to score until a shot from distance caught on the wind and lobbed Whitelock dipping in just under the bar, not much he could do about it.

Immediately afterwards, our additional players arrived and with a full 11 on the pitch, we dominated the game thereafter. We immediately started to create lots of chances and were unfortunate not to score on a few occasions. 31 minutes in, Crofton put in a lovely cross which beat the keeper and left Naderi with the easiest of tap-ins at the back post.

9 minutes after halftime, a great bit of skill and a lovely ball through by Hallett put Naderi through on goal and his powerful shot was too much for the keeper to deal with and went in off the underside of the bar.

Very much against the run of play, Hedge End then drew level at 2-2 with a goal on the break. A few minutes later, McPherson sent in a lovely corner kick and Ali was able to get onto the loose ball and calmly slotted the ball in the far corner for his first goal of the season.

Three minutes later, a careless foul led to a freekick on the edge of the opponents box. Crofton took the freekick, beat the keeper and found the top left corner of the net.

Naderi had another chance on the break, when he lobbed the keeper but the keeper then took his legs out in the air for a penalty. Naderi then stepped up and blasted his shot into the bottom left corner giving the keeper no chance.

In one of the last plays of the game, Ali neatly sidestepped in the box drawing a foul by the defender. McPherson stepped up for the penalty and calmly slotted the ball in the bottom right corner, sending the keeper the wrong way.

MotM went to Crofton who was really strong in all areas of the pitch today. McPherso earned PMotM for his phenomenal work rate, popping up everywhere, creating multiple chances and getting his penalty goal.

Naderi is now clear top goalscorer in the league.

Amazing job today Sharks, a thoroughly deserved win.

Thank you Hedge End for a great game. We wish you the best of luck for the rest of the season.

Well done to all of our teams!

WOMENS FA CUP: AWAY TO PLYMOUTH ARGYLE

26/11/23

Womens FA Cup - 2nd round

Plymouth Argyle 4

AFC Stoneham 2

Scorers: Lucas and Delaney

Firstly, we need to give some perspective.

Plymouth play three leagues above our girls and are only two promotions from the Women's Super League. They beat a team from our level 13-0 in the last round and our club has never been in round two of the FA Cup before.

Clearly the girls did not want to suffer an embarrassing result and therefore defended stoutly in a very organised fashion for most of the game although found themselves 4-0 down after 85 minutes which would have been a great result in honesty having been 2-0 down at half time.

Then what happened was very nearly unbelievable

Suddenly we took the game to Plymouth and Susani Lucas struck on 85 minutes before, after great work from Chloe Andrews, Mia Delaney struck on 88 minutes.4-2

Then Chloe Melton has a goal disallowed on 90 minutes for 4-3 when clearly onside. This did leave a feeling of "if only" however had we not set up as we did before the last 10 minutes or so we may possibly have been further behind.

The girls lost the game 4-2 but in truth there was only one team that "won" today. Our girls from AFC Stoneham.

To say they were a huge credit to our club both on and off the pitch would be a huge understatement. To those that were there and enjoyed the day, we were privileged.

Our club are bursting with pride tonight and very proud of every girl that pulled on a purple shirt today.

Thank you to everyone of you

Womens FA Cup - 2nd round

Plymouth Argyle v AFC Stoneham

Our Ladies first team make history on Sunday by competing in the 2nd round of the FA Cup for the first time in 105 years

The team has already won through three rounds which is a fantastic achievement.

Tomorrows task is a huge one against a club that play three levels above ourselves and are only two promotions off the Womens Super League. They progressed to this round by winning 13-0 in the last round.

To put this in perspective if anyone had said this game was possible some five years ago when our ladies were in the Hampshire Womens County League Division 3 they would have been laughed at. Tomorrow it's reality.

The magic of the FA Cup!

Everyone at AFC Stoneham is super proud of the girls and whatever happens they will enjoy a wonderful day and a fantastic experience.

Everything to gain and nothing to lose.

Good luck girls!!

SCOTT HILLS

Scott Hills

The club wishes to announce the departure of Scott Hills to Alresford Town

Scott has played 268 games for the club scoring 88 goals over a nine year period and was top scorer in the Wessex Premier League during season 2019/20.

Scott's commitment, attitude, work rate and persona over that nine year period epitomises our club and its values.

We are very sad to lose Scott however at this time he feels that he will gain more game time at Alresford who are an excellent club.

Scott has been on the journey with us over nine years making his debut in November 2014 at Stockbridge on, with respect, a very muddy pitch in the middle of nowhere whilst we were a mid table Hampshire League team.

Like many others at that time, he probably never envisaged that we would be where we are today and would have experienced the many wonderful memories that we have done during that fantastic journey.

Scott Hills has been pivotal to that journey and a huge contributor to our continued progress and success.

He will be missed by everyone at the club however he knows that the door is always open and both him and his family will be warmly welcomed back at AFC Stoneham at anytime.

We wish Scott the very best of luck at Alresford.

NOV14: Hampshire Senior Cup AFC Stoneham 1 Southampton 2

Hampshire FA Senior Cup

Oyekunle(2)

The boys put on a very good performance but narrowly lost out to a youthful Southampton side in front of nearly 600 supporters.

We were one down in a couple of minutes when Nick Oyekunle seized on a short back pass however we then had the better of the first half but missed good chances and Jefferies in the Saints goal denied us on more than one occasion.

Saints doubled their lead on 64 minutes when a ball hit a hand in the box allowing Oyekunle to score from the penalty spot.

The boys then took the game to Saints and, again, the keeper pulled off some excellent saves whilst we still missed good chances.

Yumo Wan scored on 85 minutes to reduce the deficit and we still had time to create two more chances before the final whistle.

A game that we probably deserved more from and put on a very good performance on a great night for the club.

We would like to send a huge thank you to everyone who came along to support the boys.

OCT 28: YOUTH ROUND UP

SATURDAY ROUND UP

Saturday 28/10/23 match report

Let’s start with our U7’s…

AFC STONEHAM OWLS vs WHITELEY WANDERES YOUTH WARRIORS

With depleted teams on both sides due to half term holidays & illness, the boys had to work extra hard.

Max was back in goal, and made some terrific saves with his hands & feet!

Lucas scored the first of 3 goals for the Owls, Luca followed with another 2. One being a penalty which he cooly slotted in.

Ted & Finley in midfield made some great tackles and through balls and keep the Warriors battling.

Luca & Archie played all 4 matches, no signs of tiredness from them.

Man of the match went to Captain Archie for his solid effort in defence.

U9’s…

AFC STONEHAM SHARKS V DENMEAD.

The boys are really starting to form as a team, after a rocky few weeks, we are starting to see the results come from the boys, with the strength, passing, shooting and team playing.

Todays game was quite evenly matched, and both teams battled hard.

Noah and Owen who are great shot stoppers and kept the boys in the game with the braveness of being in goal.

Robert, George Yassar and Keaton where superb in there performance in defences, made some big tackles, good passing out from the back and communication.

Across middle we had Mathew, Max, Keon and Logan who managed to string some good passes together, working as a team, making good runs off the ball, and some great through balls played.

Our strikers for today where Carter and Daniel. Carter ran endless helping out the midfield when needed, using his great strength, Daniel was great in his hunting the ball down.

There was some great shots from all the lads today. We are looking to carry on our string of food performances upto th E Christmas break

Man of match - Carter

Oppositional player - Keon

Big shout out to Jade and Mark, who work hard with the boys, planning session and making sure every one has fair game time, and making sure all the boys play with a smile on there faces.

U10’s..

AFC STONEHAM Lionessess vs STUBBING U10 NIGHTINGALES.

Great game today for the lionessess. 3 players away, but this meant lots of game time

We were a bit slow to start but some fantastic defending, great movement and we started to relax.

We went a couple of goals down, but continued to work hard. Remembering our passing and moving drills, creating some fantastic spaces.

Then, 2 goals in 2 mins! Cracking goal from Renae to put us on the score sheet, then a lovely calm finish from Dulcie

We may not have gotten the rest from the score line, but the team effort, listening and working hard with some fantastic football at times was definitely a win for the girls

Well done to Skye for Parents Player and Rose for Opposition Player

U13’s..

AFC STONEHAM LIONESSES V SOUTHAMPTON WOMEN

Young Lionesses played a very good Southampton team who was very clinical in the first half going 3goals up.. Giving themselves a massive challenge in the second.

They quickly grabbed a goal from Olivia giving themselves a great opportunity.

The girls were totally dominate in the second half Lola simper powered through giving the girls hope.

Symonds added a worldie from the halfway line ..

Lionesses continued to dominate and credit to Southampton women’s goalie pulling off a few late saves..

A draw was definitely a fair reflection on the game keep up the good work girls

U14’s..

AFC STONEHAM UNITED V ANDOVER FTC

It was a very close game that could have gone either way, we went behind early on and were always chasing the game which led to Andover getting 2 in the final quarter as we were pushing higher and higher.

The boys played some really good football, hit the cross bar twice and the post so if any of those went in it would have been a completely different game.

What we said to work on for next time is being on it from the start, make the opposition chase us.

PoM went to Hamid for his unrelenting hassle, winning the ball back all over the pitch and driving forward it was also great to see Alfie and Jonjo get their first minutes for us, both having strong performances

AFC STONEHAM ATHLETIC V LJR

An early start for a day trip to the Isle of White.

The lads played the best football we've seen from them this season. Dictated play from minute one and used the width superbly to pull our opponents apart.

Were never out of posession long due to the disciplined narrow shape the boys are getting better and better at, filling gaps and working as a unit to stop opponents breaking through.

And on the odd occasion they did get through, our back line was immense.

Fair play to the opposition goalkeeper who kept the score down to six.

A massive well done to the above teams who didn’t allow the weather to take over their games & massive well done to all of our other teams who enjoyed their games

Womens FA Cup - 3rd qualifying round

Royal Wootton Bassett Town 0

AFC Stoneham 1

Scorer: Moody 66mins

Our ladies won a tight and tense FA Cup encounter today which was probably always going to be decided by one goal.

Although the girls were undoubtedly deserved winners the game could have gone either way and the deciding moment was a cracking 35 yard free kick from midfielder Rebecca Moody on 66 minutes.

The girls now progress to the FA Cup first round proper for the third consecutive season and worked extremely hard today to record a superb result and, as always, were a huge credit to our club.

We thank Royal Wootton Bassett for their excellent hospitality and wish them the very best of luck for the season.

Well done girls !!

AFC STONEHAM 6 BOURNEMOUTH FC 0

AFC Stoneham vs Bournemouth Match Report

Big scorelines are becoming ever so increasingly familiar with James’ side now, with Tuesdays empathic 6-0 victory over Phil Brown’s poppies a very appropriate response to the frustrating result and performance away at Hamble at the weekend. Duarte added 2 to his already impressive season goal tally as an controversial Owen Fee penalty, a clinical finish from Clarke and a double from Tyrell Sampson made the overall scoreline a pleasing one for the home side.

For the first 20 minutes of the encounter neither side were able to obtain full control of the game, with Clarkes opening goal coming somewhat against the run of play. Bournemouth's only significant chances came before the opener with the side very much on the back foot for the rest of the game after conceding. Things got immediately very bad for Tuesday's opponents, after the ref sent Dan Bradford of Bournemouth off the field after conceding a penalty and antagonising the ref, that saw his side 2-0 down and down to 10 men. A heated response from Bournemouth's players and management after the controversial penalty saw the ref draw another red this time for one of the management team.

Stoneham were able to capitalise on their frustrated opponents and having an extra man on the pitch as Duarte slotted in a brilliant ball from Nagle to make it 3 to the hosts. Duarte repeated the trick minutes later, this time heading in a Ryan Cluett header to give the side a very comfortable 4 goal lead going into the break.

The second half was even more energetic than the first with the purps eager to add to the scoreline. Several missed opportunities came before Tyrell Sampson made it 5 to continue his illustrious form in purple this season. A close shot from Jim Orvis was followed by another goal from Sampson to make it his brace and 6 for his side.

Overall Phill Brown will reflect on yet another heavy defeat for his side who now have a fairly poor defensive record this season, whilst James Phillips will be delighted with yet another flurry of goals from his side, who have been brutal in front of goal in the league this season.

WEEKEND ROUND UP:SUN OCT 8TH

U8 Tigers v AFC Totton

Another Sunday afternoon thriller for the parents today in a very close 3-3 draw with a talented AFC Totton team. A game that swung back and forth ended up with us scoring a last-minute equaliser and even nearly nicking it at the death. Boys showed unbelievable character to keep going after a lot went against them throughout.  The boys are showing a great togetherness at the moment, keep it up Tigers! 🐅

MOTM: Finn Western, some unbelievable saves at an important time for the team today and is improving week by week into a top keeper. Well played, Finners! 🧤

U8 Panthers v Colden Common

Well done today boys. It was a great team effort against a decent Colden Common team. The boys are really starting to pass the ball around now even on that poor pitch. The most pleasing thing is the link up play starting from the GK, through defence, to midfield and then up to the forwards. You are all getting your head up and passing.

Man of the match was Jacob. His footwork was excellent today, passing out to the wings and nearly scored from a Goal Kick. Well done, Jacob. Well done all of you. Special mention to Evan with his hat-trick and Edison, Harley and Matthew all with magical moments.

U8 Jaguars v Chamberlayne Youth

On an unseasonably hot day, the Jaguars returned to play on the grass at Stoneham. Samuel started in defence making solid tackles as usual. Within a couple of minutes of the start, he passed to Lucas and onto Captain Cooper to score the Jaguars’ first goal of the game. Lucas continued to make great runs past a couple of players with the ball and got through to Joseph whose attempts were blocked at close range by the Chamberlayne defenders.  Freddie, who was taking his turn in goal, was a safe pair of hands taking the ball calmly at the end of the quarter.

In the second quarter, Walter started the half by making some great tackles winning the ball back on several occasions. Cooper took a strike from out wide, which screamed across the goal. Harry made some confident saves both from open play and corners. Harry’s goal kick ended up in the opposition’s box and Freddie was almost on hand to knock it home.  Walter and Samuel showed great resilience under pressure and both were unlucky not to score in this quarter – both just going wide of the post.

The third quarter saw Walter in goal. Harry was going end to end, making brilliant runs down the line. When Walter got stranded, Harry cleared the ball off the goal-line and then took the ball almost the whole length of the pitch to cross to Freddie who scored the Jaguars’ second. Harry not only powerfully scored the Jaguars’ third goal in this half, but he was also getting back to defend well. Samuel was strongly tackled by a Chamberlayne player leaving him temporarily on the floor, but he managed to keep the ball, got up, ran past two players and smashed the ball home. The Jaguars’ conceded at the end of the quarter swiftly followed by Lucas on a fabulous run, then striking just wide of the post.

The last quarter of the game, saw Joseph in goal and having to face a penalty not long into the quarter. The shot hit the crossbar and Joseph managed to get a knee to it and then stopped the next shot a few seconds later. Chamberlayne pulled one more goal back, which was sent top-corner.

A great team performance today for the Jaguars. Man of the match was Samuel!

U8 Wolves v Stoneham Falcons

After a competitive start to the season, the Wolves have found it tough the last couple of games but a setback is a setup for a comeback. Stoneham derbies are always special and the Falcons have been trying to find their way in this league too so both teams were highly motivated to find that win.

An attack of Ollie, Harry and Fyfe opened the match, playing some good combinations and running at players with intent and reacting fast to the action. Harry put in a real warrior's display, winning the ball and driving into space.
Ollie's skilful dribbling made him a handful and he twice twisted into a shooting position and finished well both times. Fyfe's passing range gave us a terrific weapon enabling him to bypass the Falcon press. Shay was a wall at the back in first quarter and took care of multiple Falcons attacks. The Falcons played some good football and posed a threat from distance, outlined by an outrageous strike from halfway.

Jacob took over in defence and kept things simple, clearing his lines well but also recovering the ball for his team on several occasions in a typically solid display.
Jack and Louie provided the culture and energy in midfield, whilst Vinnie pressed brilliantly from the front. His finish when the chance came was absolutely clinical. The whole team worked brilliantly in triangles to create chance after chance. Louie's aggressive running down the wing was devastating and he provided two fantastic assists for Jack who had probably his best game in a purple shirt, scoring a fantastic hattrick, the third from a great through ball from Jacob. Jasper in goal pulled off some great saves throughout including a world class dive to his left towards the end.

A genuinely superb match that neither team deserved to lose and so it was with seconds on the clock the Falcons pressured and got the equaliser. The Falcons boys look very tidy and well organised and no doubt they'll keep getting better from here. We're really delighted with that performance, everything we've worked on in training was applied brilliantly.
Players of the Match could have been every single player but Jack and Louie were top class for the Wolves today.

U9 Panthers v Winsor United Red

A tough game for the Panthers today. After a tight first quarter, both teams battled throughout.
The opposition pressed hard and didn’t give the boys much time on the ball. They took their chances and defended well.
A lovely goal scored by Luca today with Freddie taking Man of the Match for his grit and determination throughout the game.

Stoneham U9 Eagles v Littleton Cosmos

The Stoneham boys came out strong from the get go. Scoring several brilliant goals in the first quarter. The Eagles dominated the field in all 4 quarter, even when Littleton had all their players on the field in 2 of the quarters, our 7 players still made spaces, defended well and scored goals!
James had a great game scoring 4, Freddie got a hat-trick which was well deserved, then Kian coming up with 2 great goals in the last quarter.
Albert scored an absolute powerhouse goal, plus Leo and Billy scored crackers as well.

Littleton scored 2 own goals that took Eagles to 14 goals. Littleton came back with 2 goals and their team were gracious in their defeat - not letting it get the team down, very impressive boys!

As always, our defence was strong with special mentions to Jenson who worked hard near the back with Wali and Quinn for support at all times.

Harry had a clean sheet this week and Leo made some great saves when it was his turn in goal. Julius assisted some of the goals and ensured he was an annoyance to their defence by finding spaces and making great crosses.

Kian won man of the match, which was well deserved and as always the boys worked as a unit and it showed on the pitch throughout the game.
We done boys, up the purps !!!!

U10 Hurricanes v Hamble Club Typhoons

Our Winning streak in Blue 2 continues with a win against a very good Hamble team.  A great hat trick from Frankie secured the win of our last game in Blue 2… White 2 here we come! 💜⚽️

The boys have managed a fantastic 22 goals so far this season… GK Cedric is a machine 💪🏼
4 league games … 240 minutes of football… only 3 goals got past him.

Proud what the boys have accomplished so far this season.

U12 Wolves v Future of Football Wizards (home) Hants Cup Rd 1
Wolves are out of the Hampshire Cup but the scoreline of 1-6 does not reflect the incredible effort from all the boys, both in preparing for and during the game, against an unbeaten Wiltshire side from five divisions above our current level, and in which a shock result was still a possibility until midway through the second half.
In 23c heat, the boys closed down and pressed at every opportunity to restrict the magical Wizards to a single first half goal, with Talal and Adam working especially hard in supporting both the defence and the attack from their wider positions while Ahmed was once again a battler in the middle of the pitch.
Dominik was on top form in goal including making four incredible saves to keep us in the game, making him our Wolf of the Week.
In the second half it was a long kick from Dominik that set Ahmed free to create a goal for Muhammed bringing us to 1-3, after which we threatened another before the Wizards finally found more tricks up their sleeves to see the game through.
Every Wolf can be happy with themselves today for their work rate and commitment, for learning and applying a more defensive system in the first half, adapting well to their more familiar system in the second, and for staying determined to the end in what will have been a great and worthwhile experience for our boys. We are proud of you all!

U12 Spitfires v  AFC Totton

The U12 Stoneham Spitfires showed good character today to come from behind twice to beat AFC Totton 2-5. A competitive first half was goalless with chances for both teams. In the second half after a bright start from Stoneham, AFC Totton took the lead after their striker was put clean through on goal. The Spitfires replied straight from kick off with a goal from Alfie Lomas. Totton then had a long range effort expertly saved by keeper Carmel before they then went 2-1 up with another long range effort, this time dipping below the crossbar. After a good spell from Totton, captain James took control with a powerful run forward into the box to hit the ball into the corner of the net to equalise. Another penetrating run from James soon after resulted in a penalty after he was taken down in the penalty area. A powerful shot from the spot by Alfie L was saved well by the Totton goalkeeper, but Freddie followed up well to make it 2-3. Ethan then scored a great goal, smashing the ball into the roof of the net with a one on one with the keeper. The match was secured near the end after a pin point cross from Bushy was well headed in by Charlie. The Spitfires battled well with no subs against a good AFC Totton team. Man of the match went to captain James for turning the match with two powerful runs forward from the back.

AFC Stoneham Jaguars U13 3-4 Littleton U13 Galaxy

The Jaguars provided a hugely improved performance on the previous week, despite the disappointment of losing to a late goal in a seven-goal thriller.

Perhaps it was the early kick off time, but the home team seem to start in sleepy fashion. Regardless, they took the lead through a really well-worked routine: Archie floated in a free-kick, Taylor flicked the ball on for John to run on to, who then intelligently played the ball across the six-yard box for Tiago to tap in at the back post.

The visitors hit back almost immediately and then within the space of a few minutes took the lead, capitalising on some slack marking. That goal seems to finally waken the Jaguars who began to implement the game plan of utilising the wide men, and Tiago, a thorn in the side of the visitors all game, found Harry in the box who finished coolly to level the scores, capping an outstanding personal performance. Despite the momentum generated by the equaliser, it was Littleton who retook the lead when a long shot through a sea of bodies left Fin with no chance. With the half time whistle in the referees’ mouth, the Jaguars showed their resolve by equalising yet again: great work from Tyler saw him thread a ball through to Tiago who grabbed his second of the game with a deft finish.

The second half was a dominant display by the Jaguars who took almost complete control of the game. Daniel and Isaac shored up the defence, Josh and Harry were tenacious in the tackle and intelligent with their use of the ball with quick transitions, and the forwards, led by Freddie, asked questions that the visitors struggled to find answers to. The home team created chance after chance with Tyler, Freddie and John unable to finish off good team moves. Jamie fashioned a chance for himself by pressing the full back, only to see his shot cannon off the bar, and a wonderful corner by Archie somehow evaded everybody to skim past the far post. Unfortunately, the Jaguars profligacy in front of goal came back to bite them when just before the end a defensive error saw the Littleton forward put the ball into an empty net for the winner. It was a tough result to take, but the performance has set the standard for the coming weeks.

Hampshire Cup
Hythe & Dibden Sharks U14 Vs AFC Stoneham Spitfires U14

A complete performance from the Spitfires saw us run out 7-0 winners in the Hampshire cup.

A first half hat trick from Harry Halligan which included a 25yrd free kick. Ethan Cripps won’t score many easier goals as he pressures the goal keeper into a mistake to poke home from a few yards out. Oliver Drew unselfishly puts the ball on a plate with only the keeper to beat for Charlie Gray to finish from 5yrds. HT 0-5.

Second half was a more fiery affair, but the Spitfires continued, or at least tried to play actual football, the same cannot be said about the opposition. Rohan Raj brilliantly followed up a Charlie Maguire free kick to tap home before Ethan Cripps grabbed his second of the day and probably the pick of the bunch. Dribbling from deep past several players forcing the keeper into a good save only for it to fall kindly back to Ethan who stroked home with his left foot.

Player of the match was Oliver Drew who seemed to enjoy his more attacking role from midfield, a great assist in the first half and a consistent outlet for which we built our attacks from. A proper captain’s performance.

U14 Panthers v Baffins Milton Rovers

Under 14 Panthers played away against a very strong Baffins Milton Rovers team this morning in the Hampshire cup and although we played well and battled hard, we fell to our first defeat and we have to admit Baffins deserved it.

Hamble United U18 vs Spitfires U18

The boys travelled to Hamble for our 1st away game if the season and put in great performance as a team.

Missing our goalie and only having 1 recognised CB in the 2nd the boys worked hard for each other in the heat. Against the run of play we found ourselves behind midway through the 1st half from a long ball. The boys kept the heads up and got back to playing our style and a great run then finish by Aaron Batista got the boys deservedly level for half time.

The second half was much the same in that we controlled the game but again we fell behind only to respond with an equaliser when Taylor Waters cooly slotting home to put us level. It seemed a matter of time until we went in front and a few shots going close in a stop/start spell but just could not find that goal, until……….a scramble in the box and the ball fell to William Drew who got his 1st goal in purple to put us in front which the boys fully deserved.

The boys defended well to see out the victory and deserved the win. Special mentions to Taylor Waters & Sam Lawrie for playing a half each in goal and Aaron Batista for a make shift CB for the 2nd half. All were excellent.   POM went to Harry Rasor who was solid in defence and calm on the ball throughout.

WEEKEND ROUND UP : SAT OCT 7

SATURDAY ROUND UP

Cup game weekend

Starting the cup game weekend is our U8’s..

AFC STONEHAM PHOENIX GIRLS

The girls played their first cup game, 2 weeks after playing their first game of the season against the same opposition!

After the result 2 weeks ago it could have been easy for them all to feel downbeat, especially conceding 20 seconds into the game this week.

Despite this all the girls showed great courage and fight on the field resulting in 4 great goals being made

Manager Liam is super proud of his team and feels the girls have done themselves proud and should have their heads held high after a brave performance

The opposition gifted goalkeeper Maisie as their player of the match for showing a brave & commanding display throughout the game!

A massive well done & keep it up!

AFC STONEHAM PUMAS V WHITELEY WANDERERS YOUTH PANTHERS

First cup game of the season for the girls today and how proud I am as the manager for these girls!!

After playing such a great team for our first game of the season the girls may have been hesitant but instead played with a completely different view of the game.

The end result was a much better result than 2 weeks prior to this game & the girls have shown how much they have grown over the last few weeks.

The girls went on with a different formation than they have been playing the last two weeks and this worked a dream and as a manager I truly believe this will make them go far as a team throughout the rest of the season!

Player of the match wasn’t a predictable or straightforward choice this week, every single player deserved to take the title home!

As a team the girls felt is was well deserved to go to our one and only Lilly for a great performance on the pitch and whilst playing in a new position.

A super well done & keep doing what you’re doing! I’m very proud to be managing you all!

Now onto our U11’s

AFC STONEHAM LIONESSES V WORTHYS WILDFIRE

The girls brought home another win today

A massive shoutout to player Mia Carruthers for scoring all of our goals today & being awarded player of the match

Keep going girls your doing great!!

Our U13’S…

AFC STONEHAM LIONESSES V CHINEHAM TIGERS

AFC Stoneham started the game very quickly this morning resulting in a few goals up in the first 10 minutes

Overall the girls were excellent and this resulted in winning their cup game comfortably whilst setting themselves a really high standard

The girls have bounced back after a narrow loss the week before..

You are doing amazing ,keep up the good work ladies

AFC STONEHAM SPITFIRES

AFC Stoneham competed well against a very strong Felpham team today

The boys began the game very bright which created in a couple of chances being made before Felpham went one up from the penalty spot!

Within the second half, Spitfires continued to show a great battle as the Felpham boys applied a lot of pressure with their quality football

Felpham then scored 2 more goals from corners resulting in them being 3 goals up whilst scoring their 4th goal shortly after.

Stoneham goalkeeper Johnnie pulled off some amazing saves throughout the game today and bravely went in for a 50/50 challenge with Felphams striker near the end to prevent a 5th goal

Freddie bouncing on a defensive error late in the game to smash the ball past Felphams goalkeeper

The Spitfires showed great spirit throughout and didn’t give up

Man of the match went to Adam today for his strong defensive display & distribution at right back

Lastly our U14’s…

AFC STONEHAM UNITED

Today was a tough game for the boys. They knew it was going to be a challenge.

Manager for the United boys created a tactical change to their formation which ultimately didn’t pay off and put his hands up for that, but never the less the boys tried their best with the new formation & can only be praised for doing their best

The manager changed back to the normal formation for the second half which created a much more positive view throughout! This gave the wingers a chance to be more involved creating more chances leading to a goal by Ethan which was neatly set up by James

Many lessons learnt today. The lads showed great fight on the pitch to keep going, especially when players started picking up knocks & not being able to make those changes. Playing out of their usual positions whilst still showing a lot of passion

Player of the match goes to Jack P for playing anywhere and everywhere today whilst having a positive impact on the rest of the team

To the boys who did pick up some knocks today , speedy recovery and we go again next Saturday

AFC STONEHAM ATHLETIC V BEREWOOD BREEZE

The lads went into the game with nothing but focus on creating space for their team mates to attack to enable an overload in the attacking 3Rd

Throughout the game the lads executed brilliantly resulting in all players being on the score sheet

A great attitude from the lads today who stepped into sharing goalkeeping duties due to our regular number 1 being ill

A massive respect to our opponents who kept going until the final whistle on Havant and Waterlooville’s main pitch!

Incredible today boys well done

Well done to all of our teams

Thank you

WEEKEND ROUND UP:SUN OCT 1

U8 Jaguars v Bursledon Atoms

The Jaguars, who were back to a full squad this week, let in 3 goals in the first quarter. However, after the interval regrouped, the boys picked their heads up and did not concede for the rest of the game. Their positioning and marking improved making it so much harder for the Atoms to get through. Ultimately, the Jaguars were so close to getting the equaliser with several chances as the game went on. Well done to:- Walter and Samuel who made some crucial tackles to stop the Atoms’ attack; Harry who made some good runs with the ball and was unlucky not to score; Freddie who also got himself into good positions and was also unlucky not to hit the back of the net; Archie who also had some lovely runs with the ball and a couple of striking chances as well as being solid in defence; Cooper who made some good runs and stepped in to go in goal in the final quarter; Joseph who kept a clean sheet when in goal and made some good tackles when in defence.

Also, a big well done to Lucas whose work output and energy was outstanding, he scored both goals to get the Jaguars back in the game. Well done to him for being today’s Man of the Match.

U8 Wolves v Sarisbury

Forget Salisbury, on to Sarisbury!

Jasper made it back from consoling Jordan Pickford at Goodison Park in time to show his idol how it's done making some excellent saves throughout. He's had a tough start to competitive football but he is showing his class between the sticks.

Shay also returned to settle into the heart of defense and looked strong in that position, but also moved forward well when needed.

Fyfe and Ollie together provided high octane, fast and threatening football; Fyfe's audacious effort for inside our half was worth the ticket price alone. Jacob did his job as defensive stopper and played well in a little cameo for him further up. He repeatedly recovered the ball for Jack and Louie who worked tirelessly up and down the pitch, both having excellent games. Vinnie pressed from the front and carried the ball aggressively and creating several good chances and deserved better luck today.

We matched Sarisbury all over the pitch in the first half and played some great passing football at times but were unfortunate to concede and go in down at halftime.

The Wolves have become renowned for their mental strength and determination right up to the whistle and a shot from Ollie was blocked by a hand and he buried his penalty confidently, giving us hope. Sarisbury however took another chance and they grew from there and took their chances. The Wolves gave everything and it really came down to finishing today, if a couple of our shots creep in the result is totally different. Shay and Vinnie took home the Players of the Match with determined and skilful displays. Life in the top leagues was never going to be easy but we'll go again next week! 💜🐺

U9 Eagles v Bursledon Blizzards

The boys started strong and Albert made it even better by scoring in the first quarter. Julius was a dynamo on the pitch with some great passes including some assists. Billy was so close to scoring several goals but was denied by some good goalkeeping from the other side.

Yet again some excellent defending from Wali, Jenson and Quinn, as always, steady at the back - a very important input and they denied several shots from the other side.

James had some amazing footwork and scored a well-deserved hat trick.

Bursledon came back with a solid 2 goals and there was some excellent ball control from both sides shown on the pitch throughout the game. Kian was a force on the field and Freddie made several brilliant attempts on target, which would have been some cracking goals if not denied at the last moments. Harry made some absolute blinding saves and ensured a victory for the Eagles !!!

Special mentions for Julius who won man of the match and Albert who was player of the month. Up the purps !

U9 Panthers v AFC Whiteley Youth

A well fought match for the Panthers today. The opposition were strong and physical, not giving our team much time on the ball. Fraser made lots of saves while Vinnie used his long throw ins to push up the pitch.

Freddie had a great game and started off the scoring for our side, alongside goals from Manny, Luca and 2 for Oscar, one a nifty back heel! Cooper bossed the midfield, creating chances and two great assists. Man of the match this week was Luca!

U10 Hurricanes v Bursledon Stars (Friendly)

First loss today after 3 league wins… but very, very positive from the players.

We had 2 players missing, which left us with only 8 players, the players worked tirelessly against, a very good, strong and organised Bursledon Stars in a friendly (who are 2 leagues above us). All in all, we played very well and competed against a team 2 leagues higher, very proud of the boys’ performance!

U12 Royals v Warsash

The U12 Royals started their cup run how they finished last season (winning the cup!) with a fantastic 5-4 win against Warsash. The opposition took a shock early lead less than 30 seconds into the game, but we kept our heads and got one back very quickly. From there, we grabbed another 2 goals to comfortably put us 3-1 up, until we made a few subs and disrupted our flow, giving Warsash too long on the ball and giving them a couple of goals. We went into the break at 3-3 thinking we should’ve had a few goals more to cushion.

Nevertheless, we got our brains back into gear for the second half and fought our way to a 4th goal putting us back in front 10 minutes before full time. A small mishap with the referee’s stopwatch saw the ref blow the whistle 5 minutes early - which was quickly rectified. The next 5 minutes were very intense, with Taylor giving us a 5th goal (his 4th of the day) to give us the cushion until Warsash clawed one back and they really wanted another one in the dying seconds of the game. Thankfully we kept our heads high, defended well and into the next round of the cup we go 💪

U12 Wolves v Hythe & Dibden Earthquakes (home) Tyro div 7

Wolves moved to top spot in div 7 today after a comfortable win against the Earthquakes.

They started confidently and were 5-0 up after 25 minutes. Jude scored direct from a free kick, Frankie saw a cross-shot drift into the net, Jude showed bravery for his second following an excellent corner from Dash, Talal was in a great position to turn in a Frankie cross, and Adam got his first of the season moving onto a through pass from Evan.

Today then became about the players who are pushing hard for a regular starting place. Alfie didn't put a foot wrong at centre back, partnered by Harry making his 4th appearance including during pre-season and we are yet to concede a goal from open play while he has been on the pitch. Evan also showed his value as a left midfielder with one assist and a terrific free kick from 25 yards that hit the post.

But the game was won by good performances in midfield from the hard working Ahmed and Wolf of the Week Rayane who had returned to his very best.

Then a consolation goal from an Earthquakes free kick was almost kept out by the high diving Dominik.

U12 Spitfires v Hamble

Stoneham Spitfires U12s managed to grind out a draw today against Hamble, despite a below par performance. The boys were out battled in the first half, going down 1-0 early on. The equaliser came soon after with a goal from Freddie. Hamble then went ahead again, before Freddie scored his second to make it 2-2 at half time. The Spitfires were brighter in the second half, applying more pressure. Hamble had looked to secure all three points with a free kick late on in the game, but Ethan grabbed a deserved equaliser in the final seconds to make it 3-3. Man of the match went to Adam for his defensive display on both flanks.

U14 Spitfires v Littleton Lokomotiv

The boys had a home time against a very well organised Littleton side in which the 1st half was very even with chances for both teams. The deadlock was broken when a Littleton corner was put away by their unmarked striker from 6 yards out. This was the only goal of a close 1st half.

2nd half could not have started any worse as straight from kick off we were 2 nil down. In past seasons the boys would have dropped their heads but in fact today it was the opposite, they upped their game and were back in the game after a through ball from Harley Marjason sent Ethan Cripps clear and attempted to take it round the keeper who got a hand to it only to land at the feet of Charlie Gray to poke home.

The equaliser followed when Ethan Cripps cut inside 2 defenders just inside the box to slot home.

Goal of the game was from George Polkinghorne who controlled the ball about 25 yards from goal and then hit a looping shot over their keeper to put the boys deservedly ahead.

The domination continued and another superb through ball this time by Seth Price sent Ethan Cripps clear who cooling slotted home.

Our 5th & final goal came from another great defence splitting pass sending Harry Halligan clear to slot home completing the excellent come back.

A superb performance by the whole team today. Player of the match went to 2 players today, 1st was Will Lakin who was faultless and was asked to play multiple positions and done this so well. 2nd player of the match went to Matthew James who had his best game in the purple shirt who was solid in defence and calm when on the ball.

Excellent performance Spitfires. 👏🏻👏🏻💜

U14 Panthers v. St Francis

Under 14 Panthers continued our good start to the season with a solid performance at home this morning against St Francis.

It was a scrappy start to the game played at a high tempo but once we settled down and started playing our football, getting the ball down and passing we took control of the game.

Joe Taylor with 2 and a single from Sam White saw us home to a 3 nil win.

The defence played well expertly marshalled by Ethan and when called upon Ryan was as dependable as ever in goal.

Another good performance all round and man of the match went to Ethan Hall.

Well played Panthers. Let's keep this momentum going!

WEEKEND ROUND UP: SAT SEPT 30

Saturday Round Up

By Georgia - Chief Saturday Reporter

First month of the season… completed

Firstly a massive well done to every single one of our Saturday teams (and of course all our AFC Stoneham teams)

Starting the show is…

U7’s

AFC STONEHAM SPITFIRES V CROFTON SAINTS TIGERS

The boys started off with a flying start with Joel, Percy & Arlo showing excellent saves.

Joel the captain for our spitfires today certainly loved the bottom corner of the net with amazing shots being scored which was followed by Percy sharing great passes which lead into a fantastic goal being made. Jackson’s calm approach to the field has shown through from last week keeping the game a smooth run for all the boys.

Second quarter soon came round which gave Eli the run of the pitch which lead him to scoring two incredible & smooth goals.

Not forgetting Teddy who lined up every pass he had the opportunity to complete which helped our scorers get the ball in the back of the net

Arthur certainly wasn’t taking his eye off the ball when he noticed a poachers finish and Joel smashing the ball into the roof of the net!!

Second half didn’t start off quite the way the first half had, the boys faced a slightly different challenge with a well packed opposition which didn’t define Spitfires great team work. The boys showed their individual skills throughout which soon shined through with the ball being in the back of the net again. Arthur shown a tidy goal to be scored whilst Eli wrapped up the last goal for the boys from his powerful hat-trick.

Excellent performance all round boys, and very well deserved player of the match went to the one and only Arthur, for showing great dribbling skills followed through with great passing

Boys your going to go far keep going!!!

AFC STONEHAM OWLS V CHAMBERLAYNE ATHLETIC YOUTH

A month into the season and our Owl boys are still as enthusiastic as they were on their first game of the season and even more so for their next game!

Finley taking ownership of the captains band today the boys stepped foot onto that pitch as if they were in battle with a very well matched opposition.

Finley, Lucas & Luca taking the opportunity to bag a goal under the belts each today. Whilst the most regular goalies being Max, Vinnie and our defender Archie making some superstar stops today and Charlie owned the goalie gloves for his first amazing stint as a goal keeper today, sorry Jordan Pickford who?

Ted being the middle man today showed great passes to all his team mates.

A huge well done to Vinnie today for getting the man of the match for his great colossus efforts throughout the whole game.

Well done boys

Now onto our..

U8’s

U8’s AFC STONEHAM SCORPIONS V BISHOPS WALTHAM DYNAMOS RED

The boys may have walked away with the result not being in their favour the overall outcome from the boys was far from a disappointment by their performance & team work makes them winners all round!

All the boys played exceptionally well considering their opponents were a very well set up team.

The boys put their weekly training sessions to the test today and showed their positional work they have learned which resulted in a great battle for the opposition.

The half way line certainly didn’t expect top scorer Rafferty whilst Seb made some incredible saves in goal today which lead him to earn player of the match.

Captain Leo got two goals under his belt today with a great team player Maksim working the pitch incredibly well across the whole pitch which lead him to be a target for the opposition.

Raphael played in 2 different positions today and showed some fantastic football confidence in doing so.

Were tackles a problem for any of the boys? Nope especially for Jack who made some cracking tackles throughout the game and worked incredibly hard today.

Alex well done today for playing brilliant and showing the opposition you weren’t afraid of giving them pressure throughout

U8 AFC STONEHAM PUMAS GIRLS V STUBBINGTON YOUTH U8 BLUEBIRDS GIRLS

What an absolutely amazing game played by all girls this morning!

An early kick off and went straight in with no nerves! The girls were up against a very strong great team of girls!

None the less they gave it their all and showed great listening from training and this morning to keep together as a team.

Fantastic talking from our captain Ruby who earned the band this game after a great training session. Rosie holding back in defence by her natural agenda to the game whilst giving it her best when she was moved into the position of the wing!

Lilly coming back into the game after missing her first game of the season from being poorly and giving the girls their first goal

Our two newest members Penny & Sofia gave it their all in the game today by showing great skills on the ball and doing their best to get the ball across the pitch to their team mates.

Olivia showing great team work & keeping their spirits up especially in the first half whilst she was running across the field to do her best to get the ball out of their end of the pitch!

Our opponents gave their player of the match to our one and only Number 8 Lilly which we agree was well deserved!

Whilst lastly Harper becoming the next Mary Earps and showing no fear when it came to saving the ball & guarding the goal as if she was hiding the treasure & receiving the parents player of the match

incredibly proud of you Pumas girls and I cannot wait for our next game next week! Growth is there and keep it coming

Running into our..

U11’s

AFC STONEHAM LIONESSES V CLANFIELD

The girls grabbed their first win of the season and what an incredible game it was

Amelia & Sophie our goal scorers of the game and bringing home the victory!!

Manager Lewis is super pleased with the girls continuous development over their current season!

Well done girlies!

Now are U12’s..

AFC STONEHAM LIONESSES V WARSASH WASPS

The journey may have been a little short & sweet on the M27 to Warsash but the girls journey back home was sure a bright & sweet one by bringing a 2-0 win home

Being in Div 3 they sure were going to encounter a challenge, saying this, this did NOT phase the girls in the slightest & were on command from the early fixture.

Great football was played all round, a break through goal was pushed in the first half but this didn’t materialise leaving the girls at a 0-0 stand.

The girls took over the half time chat and showed determination of what they wanted from one another from this next half, whilst praising one another for their great efforts.

This being said this made the lionesses more hungry for the ball to get in the back of the net for the second half The girls half time chat was sure shown on the pitch the ball was moving up the pitch at great speed which resulted in their opposition to be overwhelmed from their great intensity.

The affect the girls brought to the pitch gave Lola the time to get space within the box to get to the end of a cross from Elisha whilst moments later the were gifted a penalty

Madison who has ice going through her veins landed a powerful shot resulting the ball to hit the back of the net with no hesitation and bring her FIRST competitive goal

Keeping control of the second half they ended on a 2-0 win!

player of the match was pleasantly awarded to Elizabeth for battling through an intense game for a whole 40 minutes against players twice her height and still came out on top.

player of the week was awarded to Leah due to her continuously impressing every single person around her due to her great defence capabilities and not allowing anyone to dribble past her yet this season!

Well done girls be proud of your hard work!

Going into our U13’s …

AFC STONEHAM SPITFIRES V BAFFIN MILTON ROVERS

The boys walked onto the pitch today with nothing but determination which was built off of their last monument victory from last week leaving them to walk off the pitch with a great 6-0 win

Resulting in 3 wins out of 4 so far this season - how incredible!!

Joey having nursed an injury recently he joined the boys as if he has never been away and still resulting in pulling together and showing what a great team spirit they hold with one another.

Freddie our amazing striker lead us up the ladder with a 1-0 result by the end of the first half by making sure the ball was out of the opponents goal keepers hand and slotting it nicely in the of the bottom right corner of the goal.

The second half the boys showed great determination to make sure the ball was there’s and there’s only resulting the opponents to be pinned to their half of the pitch working hard to try and get that ball out.

The opponents keeper wasn’t going to allow Freddie to waltz a goal in if he could help it which resulted Freddie to line up a clear path for bushy to calmly hit the ball into the next

The one and only Alfie Lomas made three goal burning shots in the net from the penalty spot

The 4th goal was landed by us unfortunately but an OG by the opponents after receiving the ball perfectly directly in front of goal which was accidentally knocked in by their defender.

The spitfires certainly live up to their name and sure pilled the pressure onto their opponents and receiving several more chances for the ball to get in the back of the net.. resulting in the ball being shot off the post by Alfie L and the opponent goal keeper sure was determined not to let the hat-trick hit the net by Freddie.

Our goalie Johnnie showed great work throughout and his determination allowed him not to let a goal get past him. Alfie L securing his second goal of the match by scoring a fantastic goal in the bottom left corner.

Jessie the left back player showed great tackling skills & play out throughout the game and was awarded the man of the match.

Well done everyone and a fantastic result

Our delightful U14’s..

AFC STONEHAM UNTIED

The boys may have not come home with the result they wanted, but there’s plenty of room to get that result boys!

Coming together as one and dreams and determination bounce off one another the boys really did but their best efforts into todays game and this is all we could ever ask for as a football club. The boys stood up for one another where it was needed and were also quick enough to tell one another where things were needed to be improved but not allowing this to dull their sparkle.

The boys showed possession and chances were created throughout the game, but the team lacked on their pass and shot from the final moment which is just a lesson to be learnt and they all know if this was a different day this would have turned the game around immensely but don’t let this define you all as a team

A positive was greatly shown from Ed on the pitch today with his first minutes of the season were played and he was clean and tidy throughout the game and especially in the second half creating fantastic 1-2-1 saves.

The man of the match was well deserved to Harry for his commanding performance in the middle and showing the biggest voice on the pitch which were sure matched to his tackles on the pitch

And finally our U18’s

AFC STONEHAM KNIGHTS V BRAISHFIELD BEES

The young lads were drawn away in the first round for the U18’s for the Testaway League this didn’t stop the lads from giving the game their absolute best!

The division was too much for the opposition leaving the Knights leading the way with a grand finish being 18-0

Leyton leading the way with 9 incredible goals, Ewan & Fred scoring 3 goals each with another goal each from Elliott S & Ben and unfortunately and OG for Braishford Bees

Massive well done and Thankyou to Ben and Elliot stepping into the Goal keeper position and the whole team meeting the game objectives.

Man of the match goes to Leyton for his treble hat-trick

Well done to Braishfield who kept going and showed great spirit in defeat.

So pleased for the above teams and all of our other Saturday teams

Roll on another month of the season !

Well done to everyone

WEEKEND ROUND UP:SUN SEPT 24

U8 Jaguars v Baddesley Park Knights

In much improved conditions from last week, the Jaguars were well-matched straight away. Walter, in goal, had a few saves to make in the first quarter. Archie, strong in defence, went on a few runs and linked with Freddie who just missed with his shot. The Jaguars conceded soon after with some nice passing from the opposition, but got straight back into the game when they earned a corner resulting in a goal from Cooper. Samuel was also having a cracker at the back making some key tackles. Freddie got another shot on goal but ended up colliding with the keeper.

In the second quarter, Freddie took his place in goal and again, some precise finishing from the opposition resulted a couple more goals. The Jaguars did get some great opportunities driving forward with Lucas and Samuel combining well. Samuel had two shots in quick succession – one narrowly missing the post.

Joseph was in goal in the third quarter making multiple crucial stops from the unrelenting attack. He was unlucky to let a goal in after an initial save fell into the path of the oncoming forward. Cooper and Lucas were again making intricate runs and putting the opposition defence under pressure. Freddie, too, was in on the action making a great run but shooting just wide.

For the last quarter, Cooper was in goal. He was called upon early on to make a save, but Baddesley Park were able to add a couple more goals to their tally. Towards the end, the Jags won a corner and it looked certain that they would get their second goal, but it bounced off the post and the opposition were able to get it away. The Jaguars conceded a penalty in the closing moments which was converted.

Man of the Match was Freddie.

Not the result they would have liked, but they go again next week!

U8 Wolves v Salisbury

After a high scoring draw in the midweek friendly vs Littleton, the Wolves made their first trip out to Ganger Farm for a clash against Salisbury.
We expected a tough game but Salisbury hit us hard and fast and before we knew it the result was already gone.

With 20 minutes on the clock we had 7 players on the pitch and a chance react to a different challenge - keeping the score down.
With a 2-3-1 shape we battled and gained a foothold into the game. Jacob and Louie worked as a pair with Harry fighting for every ball in front. A combination of Jack, Fyfe, Vinnie and Ollie pushed Salisbury back and we managed to carve out chances. The Salisbury keeper pulled off some good stops and all the forwards had opportunities. It was Ollie that took his and he'll be very happy with his hattrick.

Jasper had a busy afternoon in goal and never let his head drop, even after taking a knock, requiring Harry to step in between the sticks. Jasper's bravery made a massive difference to the scoreline as did the countless tackles Jacob put in in defence and those two earned the Players of the Match awards.

A difficult game for the Wolves but we showed amazing mental strength, team spirit and resilience to stay in the game. Credit to Salisbury, they were a cut above but we'll be back next week for another challenge 💜🐺

U8 Tigers

An end-to-end thriller for the parents today as we come out victorious in a very tight game against a talented Hiltingbury team.

A slow start from the lads saw us go behind but as the game progressed the lads grew in confidence and played some great football eventually taking control and going on to get the deserved win. Another fantastic team display.

MOTM: Brooklyn Helm, box to box, grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck… scored a brace and an assist Foden would be proud of.

U8 Panthers

Well done everyone today.
That was a tough match against a very good AFC Totton Youth side. It was a very physical game and played in good spirit. Those are the games I love watching us play. Still need to get our head up and pass, but that will come.
Man of the match went to Seth. His energy and work rate was excellent today. Well done Seth. Special mention to Evan and Henry with 2 magical moments each and Matthew adding another.

U9 Wolves v U9 Panthers

The Panthers played a great opposition today who closed them down and didn’t give them much time on the ball.
Fraser made impressive saves as always including a penalty, Vinnie bossed the defence with Billy, Freddie and Cooper controlling midfield with lots of possession through to Manny and Oscar pressing upfront.
Goals came from Billy, 2 for Manny and hat trick hero Oscar!
Man of the match this week was Manny.

U9 Eagles

Hosted Hedge End Falcons today where both teams started strong. The game was an absolute blinder with lots of goals and excitement.
Eagles showed some excellent defending with brilliant foot work particularly from Kian and James. We scored first with Albert rocketing the ball in the goal. The Falcons came back with another to match.
Albert scored again and then Freddie got another with James' assistance.
The last 2 quarters were a battle with Hedge End coming back into the game so the Eagles had to step up their game. The Eagles managed to come back with another from James.
Leo and Harry made some excellent saves and there was plenty of solid defending from both sides including Jenson, Quinn, Wali and Julius making crucial tackles and interceptions. Billy worked hard and nearly got a goal several times. All in all and excellent game and great football - well done U9 Eagles.
A special mention to Freddie who ran his socks off at both ends to make an unmissable contribution to an excellent team performance.

U10 Panthers

Well done today boys. We played our very own Wolves team today. It was a great team effort. Not the result we wanted but Considering we only had ONE sub and you all played nearly the whole game, you all battled so well. We knew it was going to be hard but the boys done themselves proud.
The boys were shattered at the end but didn’t give up. The additional players were the difference today.
Man of the match went to Hugo, apart from his 3 magical moments, your awareness and work rate was excellent today. Special mention to Ollie for his 60yd magical moment too!  👏

U10 Hurricanes v Hedge End Rangers Kestrels

The AFC Stoneham Hurricanes Under 10’s had a fantastic game today against a very tough organised Hedge End Rangers Kestrels. A great performance from all the players to secure a 3rd win.

Key passes were made from the back by Toby, Olivier and Callum. Some great corners from Oscar as they were taken with perfection. Alex was a machine in the centre of midfield, and didn’t stop running all game!  Said and Luca played well on the wings, taking the ball wide to get some key crosses into Frankie to bag another couple of goals. Cedric played well in goal with some superb shots being saved.

Joey earned himself player of the match and scoring the first hat-trick of the season.

Great performance by all, and we go again next week! 💜⚽️

U10 Wolves

After a slow start, we still played well in some areas of the pitch with how we moved the ball. We got on top of the opposition early in the second quarter and took the game away from them from that moment onwards! Some fantastic team work scoring at will and opening out spaces. The opposite team will be thankful for the mercenary rule!!!
Fantastic work from the Wolves in the Stoneham derby!! MOM went to ADRIANO whose work ethic and team play created plenty of chances along with bagging himself a brace.
Well Done Wolves

U12 Wolves v Warsash Wasps Green

A last minute equaliser got Wolves a well deserved point in a 3-3 top of the table clash today.  A heavy ball on long wet grass did not suit our style and we were two down after 14 minutes against a strong and well-drilled Warsash team. But from that moment on, the players tigether learnt how to adapt to their circumstance and discovered a different way of becoming successful by showing pure strength and resilience. Before half time a thumping free kick from Muhammed was only parried by the goalkeeper but Wolf of the Week Jude was there in position to smash the loose ball into the roof of the net. Jude's work rate was outstanding today and he twice made crucial tackles inside our own area to prevent a shot on goal. Adam also had a good day often moving deeper than before to collect the ball and hit the post after getting onto the end of a great cross from Dash.
More despair early in the second half as a quality Warsash cross together with pressure from the on-rushing forward resulted in an own goal.
But there was no sign of anyone giving up. Talal was always creative with his short passes but it was Ahmed who scored his second of the season to bring it back to 2-3 before Frankie almost equalised hitting a well struck penalty that was brilliantly tipped onto the crossbar before bouncing down onto the line.
But in the final minute, it was Muhammed who finally managed to find space in the box and fire home to set off the wild celebrations!

U12 Spitfires

The U12 Stoneham Spitfires won their match comfortably against Winchester Blue this morning. The boys dominated territory and possession, with goals coming from Bushy (3), Freddie (2), Ethan (2) , James (2) and Alfie L. The Spitfires battled well and created many chances, with man of the match going to captain James for his drives forward from the back and 2 goals. It was also good to see Joey return from injury.

U14 HYTHE & DIBDEN CRUSADERS 0-3 AFC STONEHAM SHARKS

Naderi (2)
Dube

MotM – Beck

PMotM - Bhadry

Three games played, three games won! Cracking start to the season.

Another fantastic team performance. A huge shout has to go out to the keeper (Whitelock) and his defence. Whitelock was injured on Friday and had a black swollen finger. Despite that, he wanted to play. As it turned out we needn’t have worried as, due to solid defending, he only made 2 saves despite keeping a clean sheet.

The work rate across the pitch and throughout the game was fantastic. We only had one sub today and by the end of the match it was obvious that lots of players were tired but despite this they worked hard until the final whistle.

Bhadry won Parents' Man of the Match for his work rate and determination, chasing down half chances and lost causes resulting in lots of turnovers. He also hit the bar and was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet.

Similarly, Beck worked his socks off and was determined to get back on the pitch after being hurt in the first half. He showed classic winger play by repeatedly getting down the wing and putting in fantastic crosses, one of which resulted in a goal.

The opening goal came from one of Crofton’s (also known as Rory Delap) huge throws that beat the keeper and the whole defence allowing Dube the easiest of tap-ins - a classic poachers goal.

The second goal came on the break with Naderi using his pace to get clear of the defence and power a shot into the back of the net.

The third goal was made by Beck on the right wing, sending in a perfect cross which Naderi was able to get on the end of for a tap in.

We welcomed Adu-Gyamfi in his debut game today, well played Adu-Gyamfi.

A big thank you to our hosts H&D Crusaders for a game played in good spirits. We wish you well for the rest of the season.

WEEKEND ROUND UP: SAT SEPT 23

SATURDAY ROUND UP

Drum roll…

What a great day for our teams!!

U7 Age Goup

Lee Rangers V Spitfires

The game started off physically tough for the Spitfire boys as the Lee Ranger boys wanted to show them the challenge ahead. The Spitfires rose to the challenge and showed them they are up for anything. Strikes happened early from Teddy, Ollie & Joel who are a great reward to the team

Throughout the game Jackson stayed calm with excellent passing dictating the play all whilst commanding the backline!

Joel and Eli added commitment to the boys whilst Joel was full of a full on action display with 2 great goals after his hat-trick with Eli clinically finishing another goal!

Percy may have not got a ball in the back of the net this time, but the lead up was shown by brilliant passing!

Second half and Eli was nothing but showing his top gear speed followed by a couple of great goals to complete his Hat-trick. Whilst bagging a brace Ollie got the ball in the roof of the net- great work!

Captain Cameron showed amazing goal saves throughout the game with great stretches to keep the opposition away and not forgetting Arlo showing a great goal attempt by striking the post!

An amazing game and a game to be super proud of. Well done to Jackson for earning the Player of the match today by showing nothing but calmness throughout whilst assuring great play at the back.

U8 Age Group

AFC Stoneham Pumas V Whiteley Panthers

The girls first game of the season and what a game it was. Did I see any nerves in the girls throughout the game not one but nothing but smiles and giggles!!

Whiteley Panthers gave it there all and certainly kept the girls on their feet but the Puma girls done nothing but shined through the whole 40 minutes!

Penny and Sofia have only trained with the girls once but shown great communications and dedication throughout and it was like they’ve been there from the start.

Captain Penny may have been full of cold but she done put on a great performance on pitch and in goal!

Ruby sure wasn’t shy getting in a tackle and was adamant to get the ball and get it away from their goal keeper.

Rounding the game off with nothing but positivity the player of the match went to Rosie for showing nothing but dedication and keeping positive when times got tough you truly deserved it this week Rosie so well done!

AFC Stoneham Scorpions V AFC Stoneham Sharks

Our very own Derby day for our two new U8 AFC stoneham boys

A fantastic day all round showing great passing whilst showing what they’ve learned throughout the training sessions!

Starting off his first ever game today Seb lead the way in goal showing some cracking saves along with his team mate Rafferty showing nothing but showing what a strong defender is!

Leading the way Jack made his first goal of the season whilst Leo worked his socks off running up and down that pitch todays

Any position needed or wanted Milo worked extremely hard alongside his team mates so well done Milo!!

Maksim performed fantastic crossing into the pitch for his team mates throughout the game making.

And a massive well done Alex bagging player of the match today after showing growth in his confidence!

AFC Stoneham Eagles V Crofton Saints Youth

What a performance today boys

Second game of the season and they only brought the win home! So well done!!

The start of the match was great especially when Marcus S joined the game and scored us a goal and changed the whole dynamic of the game making it a draw!

Whilst Crofton were nothing short of organisation on a physical perspective the Eagles done nothing but match that energy at any given turn!

The game may have changed for a short moment in the second half until Mitchell showed great thinking with an early throw, Junior was able to convert this with only a first touch into a volley leaving both teams “equal”

With Louis and George joining in the last 10 minutes nothing but positivity and looking for a win, Louis broke through after a moment of feeling like eternity to take that shot on 1V1 which resulted into him taking that winning point of the game and showing nothing but an ice cool attitude.

Special mention for Joshua today for taking position in goal and doing a fantastic job at it to whilst Milo kept himself and Joshua safe with his rock solid defence.

Overall, all the boys deserved the player of the match today due to showing great determination and desire to work together, showing a truly worthy performance!

Well done Eagles

U11 Age group

AFC Stoneham Sharks V Porchester Vikings

Superb game with fabulous conditions which was strongly followed with excellent attitudes from both teams!

Could there have been more goals made? Of course, but with both the teams taking the lead throughout this game.

Proud of this game is an understatement from the attitude through to the performance was superb for the results made but an excellent opposition!

Our special moments for todays game goes to our excellent goal keeper Charlie and Spencer who played a new position for centre back which resulted in him being the winner for the hero

Our captain Eesah held a great example for the team by keeping control of the back line whilst the player of the match was rewarded to Daniel who not only scored a goal but also assisted two or three goals for the Sharks. Not only did he give his team mates an assist for goals he also worked incredibly hard in defence creating new challenges for the opposition team all whilst staying persistent through out.

Well done team!

U11 AFC Stoneham girls Tigers

For the U’11’s our girl Tigers are one of the most recent foundation teams within the club & today was followed by their first ever game which was an away game! Were the nerves there? We’re let you take a guess..

Limited training, new faces the game plan was to get out there and enjoy every minute on the pitch this morning and if they could follow at least one or two things mentioned by the managers then even better, but if not there’s plenty of time!

The first quarter showed a couple of challenges but nothing the girl tigers couldn’t deal with. A few learning curves were given but expected. Resulting in some goals being made in these early stages the spirits stayed, whilst the second half resulted in a draw due to Lylah took this final result as a draw for an opening goal.

Ellie’s first match let alone first time in goal and what a great performance had by Ellie especially those saves.

Half times team talk was nothing but positive and simple form for the girls to stay and enjoy the game and reflect what they’ve learnt. Lylah added to her goal tally by having a hat trick whilst our last goal was done by Naya who has a slight advantage due to previous relations to her old team Pumas.

Even thought today wasn’t ended for what they wanted they made one another and all those supporting proud, especially as their first game with the team.

Player of the match for Sharks has been rewarded to Lylah for the 3 goals she managed to score this afternoon.

Naya only went and got the opposition player of the match by showing her determination to run the girls ragged and getting the ball in the net

AFC Stoneham Tigers girls you all deserved player of the match by showing what grassroots is exactly about in your first game!

JPL V Pompey

The boys may have not brought the win home, but it doesn’t mean it’s a loss it’s a lesson learnt.

Overall the game was good and no matter the result the score line won’t reflect the match had.

Did times gets a little tough 100% the league overall is competitive and will keep everyone in their toes whilst the football clubs are strengthening week by week and players coming from academy’s.

It’s early days with the season having only been started, but the team will keep showing up giving it their best and will soon iron out they will be fine!

Our stand out players for this game goes to Zack, Logan, Joe, Baden whilst player of the match goes to the well deserved Alan!

U13 Age Group

AFC Stoneham Spitfires V Meon Milton

A well deserved 4-2 win to bring home, shown by nothing short of grit, skill and excellent team work.

Meon kept the boys on their toes with bagging two goals in the net before half time. The boys could have easily allowed this to knock their confidence on the pitch and heads dropped.

Roll into the second half and the Spitfires showed all those there how dominant they can be on that pitch as a team they faced challenges but they battled through it giving everyone there a great game to watch.

The penalty spot was Alfie L’s favourite area to score his two goals from early on in this second half these goals brought both teams level with a draw

The amazing performance from spitfires sure raised a few frustrations on the pitch with fouls being which only made Spitfires become galvanised.

Break through when Bushy brought in another goal leading us a point up, with the finishing goal being made by Freddie who made the game nothing but safe making Spitfires finish with the 2-4 win

The one and only Freddie throughout the game showed his manager Jon relentless pressing and running at Meons defence which resulted in Freddie receiving player of the match

A massive well done to Spitfires, football won out in the end!

U14 Age Group

U14 AFC Stoneham United V Newbury

A fantastic performance made today by the united boys!

The result being 4-1 which flattered Newbury, but to give it to United for the better play being made throughout the game.

Boys you really deserve to be proud of yourself throughout this game, you picked yourself up with 2 early goals being made. The passion from you all today was amazing we just want to see it from the minute you hear that first whistle!

For a team that’s brand new, hardly know one another let alone their names whilst learning how each of them play, the overall points of

6/9 really isn’t something to be put down about.

Kian you deserved the player of the match today by showing great commanding of the middle of the pitch whilst playing some positive forward balls

Well done!

AFC Stoneham Athletic V BRS

BRS were hungry for the win from the moment they stepped foot on that pitch which caught Stoneham Athletic out early on leading to 4-1 up within half hour of play.

Come half time the boys could have lost all determination but from a great team talk followed by a tactical tweak, the Athletic team were back and back in full force and they weren’t there to mess around. SIX unanswered goals were made which brought the winning game home for the boys leaving them with a 7-4 win

Well done lads

U18 Age Group

AFC Stoneham Knights V Downtown.

Division 1 league for the U18’s Testway League the lads showed dominated possession within the first half of the game, there were a couple of close calls made in the first half to take the lead.

Come the start of the 2nd half and the lads continued to be a threat to the opposition not allowing the first half to take their spirit away from their game.

2 long range goals were made quickly in the 2nd half by Ewan & Blake who are incredible strikers & a great asset to the team!

The knights conceded a goal before Ben making the final score on 90 minutes before the final whistle went, allowing the Knights take the 3 points home

Josh our goalkeeper for the Knights truly deserved man of the match by being him outstanding self his overall positional play and reading of the game was superb. Josh mopped up a few threats he was faced with when he was caught out at the back but didn’t allow this to determine his outlook on the fame.

Overall your manager today lads is really really pleased with your performance & agrees you played a lovely match today!

Well done

Can’t wait to hear all about your games next week!

UPTHEPURPS

Finally, well done and thank you to Georgia, our new match reporter, who has taken on the role after the old reporter was retired after many years (sacked!).

Thank you

A FANTASTIC DAY - FA CUP V YEOVIL TOWN

FA Cup v Yeovil Town

The result was not what we wanted although we knew that against a full time team of professional footballers that was realistically always a possibility.

The result though was the only small blip on a truly wonderful day which made many lifelong memories for a lot of people both young and old

To see our boys enter the pitch in front of over 2000 people with our marvellous little mascots was emotional.

The boys played their hearts out and left nothing on the pitch, as we knew they would.

The support from 208 away fans was truly unbelievable.

We all celebrated our goal as if we had scored the winning goal in the FA Cup final!

The boys applauding the fans at the end of the game is a picture which will be etched in the memory forever.

Yeovil Town could not have made our special day any better and were outstanding hosts. A wonderful club full of warm, respectful and fantastic people from top to bottom.

Yesterday was never about the score. The day was about people, memories and in

our own small way putting our great club on the map.

Everyone played their part in ensuring that we all made that happen in abundance on possibly the greatest day in our clubs history.

Thank you to every one of you.
