Vitality Womens FA Cup: AFC Stoneham 3 Rushmoor 2

A great win for our Ladies on Sunday saw them progress to the next round of the FA Cup.

They made a dream start with early goals from Madison Payne and Charlotte Gatehouse giving them a two goal lead in 11 minutes however they took their foot off the pedal and allowed a resurgent Rushmoor to equalise before half time.

The game was decided on 56 minutes when speed machine Chloe Andrews beat two or three players and slotted in at the far post to clinch another famous victory.

The girls will now play Eversley and California in the next round at home on Sunday October 23rd.

Well done girls!!

US Portsmouth 1 AFC Stoneham 4

Sat October 1st : United Services Portsmouth vs AFC Stoneham

AFC Stoneham come out 4-1 winners against a resilient United Services Portsmouth side on Saturday afternoon. The Stoneham faithful saw a changed side from Tuesdays Wessex League Cup win, 8 in total. Ben Godwin back in goal and captain Jim Orvis back in the starting line-up.

The Purps kicked the first half off but were very slow to get up and running, because of this United Services Portsmouth (USP) took advantage of this and in the 5th minute they went 1-0 up. Stoneham, however, didn’t back down and showed some fight by having a few attempts at goal, one saw Cade Dyer play a great through ball to Ryan Penny, he shoots but its saved by the keeper. A minute later USP nearly make it 2-0 but some great defending by Ben Clarke with  a goal line clearance sees the score-line stay the same

Stoneham are relentless on the attack and sees Jim Orvis go through on goal, he squares it to Duarte Martins but he slips before he can connect with the ball. Again a ball is played through to Scott Hills he shoots but his shot is well over the crossbar. The hard work paid off and in the 23rd minute Stoneham find their equaliser, when Scott Hills plays the ball into the box Duarte Martins meets and heads it home. The Purps could have gone ahead before half time when Hills was taken down in the penalty box, shouts for penalty were heard but they were waved away by the referee.

HALF TIME – United Services Portsmouth 1-1 AFC Stoneham

The second half gets under way and we see a much more brighter and awake Stoneham side. 6 minutes into the second half Stoneham find themselves 2-1 up when Lewis Nagle plays the ball across into the box, Duarte Martins again is the highest he meets and heads in into the back of the net. Another great chance comes for the team when Ben Godwin plays the ball over the top to Martins who goes one on one with the keeper he shoots but he hits the side netting. In the 73rd minute we make our first change of the afternoon when Ryan Penny comes off and Nathan Clements on. 6minutes later Duarte Martins get his third (hattrick) when a mess up at the back for USP let’s Martins go one on one again with the keeper and calmly slots it home.

2nd substitution sees Lewis Nagle make way and Liam Callaghan come on for the remainder of the game. Duarte Martins, the hero of the day, has a chance to get his fourth when he goes through on goal he manages to get a shot away but it’s over the crossbar. 86th minute Stoneham get their fourth  when Liam Callaghan powers through on goal he crosses it in front of the goal mouth and Nathan Clements taps it into the bottom right hand corner. We make a final double substitution before full time when Jim Orvis and Tommy Barnes comes off and Isaac Evans and Adam Pattison come on. We have the ball in the back of the net curtesy of Liam Callaghan but it’s ruled out for offside.

A much better second half from Stoneham sees them deservedly come out winners on the day.

FULL TIME – United Services Portsmouth 1-4 AFC Stoneham

FA Cup: North Leigh 2 AFC Stoneham 2

North Leigh vs AFC Stoneham – Match Report

AFC Stoneham fought back from conceding 2 second half goals to earn themselves a well-deserved FA Cup replay on Tuesday night. The Purps started really well from the start and looked the more likely to score from kick off. First chance that caused some disturbance for the North Leigh goalkeeper was in the 15th minute when Jim Orvis found himself on the edge of the box, he shoots but it goes inches wide of the goal, keeper just had it covered. 2 minutes later North Leigh had a chance at our goal when they were given a free kick at the edge of the box, the player shoots but Callum Lee pulls off a cracking save that keeps the score-line at 0-0. AFC Stoneham registered more attempts at goal but just couldn’t get the ball into the back of the net. Duarte Martins, 6 minutes before halftime, breaks free from the defence goes through on goal. He manages a shot away but it goes over the crossbar. The Purps deserved to be in-front at half-time, but North Leigh defended well to keep the scoreline 0-0.

Half Time: North Leigh 0 – 0 AFC Stoneham

North Leigh kicked us off for the second half, and Stoneham started brightly just like the first half. 2 minutes in Stoneham are awarded a free kick 20 yards out, Jim Orvis takes, he plays the ball in Scott Hills meets the ball but the keeper is behind to get his hands on to the ball. However, the good luck didn’t last long as in the 48th minute North Leigh got a goal to make it 1-0 after some confusion in the defence which gave them the opportunity to shoot. Quick reaction by Stoneham sees us get an equaliser from Duarte Martins but it gets ruled out by the referee due to a “foul” on the goalkeeper. From a corner Cade Dyer plays the ball in, met by Duarte Martins who heads into the back of the net, with Hills going up for the ball the goalkeeper goes up to but he misses it (fumbles the ball) he goes down claiming that he was impeded by Martins (unfairly judged) referee dismisses the goal. The Purps make their first substitution of the day which sees Liam Callaghan come off and Cian Cleary come on. Stoneham didn’t give up and kept working to get an equaliser, a chance came when Martins plays the ball across to Scott Hills who puts the ball across the goal mouth Cian Cleary dives in but just misses it to slot the ball home. 79th minute sees North Leigh get their second goal of the day, but Stoneham kept pushing and working to get a goal themselves. Stoneham make a double substitution in the 80th minute in which we see Tommy Barnes and Jamie Bulpitt come off and Adam Pattison and Isaac Evans come on. The changes make an impact as 4 minutes later Stoneham get a goal back when Scott Hills hits the ball on the volley and smashes it into the back of the net 2-1, game on. In injury time, Duarte Martins breaks free from the defence and goes one on one with the keeper and calmly slots the ball into the net to make 2-2, and joins in with the celebrations behind the goal. A major achievement by the boys in purple who were the underdogs on the day to come away with a draw, role on Tuesday for the replay.

Full Time: - North Leigh 2-2 AFC Stoneham

Line-up: - Lee, Barnes, Dyer, Bulpitt, Ockwell, Ovington, Callaghan, Orvis, Martins, Clements, Hills Subs: - Pattison, Godwin, Evans, McNulty, Cleary, Thackray.

Hants Cup: AFC Stoneham 6 Cowes Sports 1

AFC Stoneham vs Cowes Sports – Hampshire Senior Cup

AFC Stoneham kicked off their Hampshire Senior Cup journey, by thrashing Wessex League rivals Cowes Sports 6-1 on Tuesday night.

Few changes from Saturday’s win against Blackfield & Langley, which sees Ben Godwin, Cade Dyer, Cian Cleary and Liam Callaghan all in the starting line-up. The Purps started off the better of the two sides, when 6 minutes in they could have gone 1-0 up. From a corner Jim Orvis plays it short to Cade Dyer who whips the ball into the box, it meets Scott Hills who heads it but it goes just wide. Another chance came from Cian Cleary who plays the ball from the right-hand side in to the box, Hills jumps to meet the cross but he narrowly misses the ball, it falls down to Liam Callaghan who shoots but his shot takes a deflection and goes out for a corner. Cowes Sports had a few attempts themselves but Ben Godwin pulled off some great saves to keep the score line at 0-0.

We didn’t have to wait long for the first goal of the game as 17 minutes in Cowes Sports made it 0-1 with the goal being scored by Josh Neale. But Stoneham were quick to respond as 2 minutes later a ball floated over the top to Scott Hills who brings it down and goes through on goal and puts it in the back of the net to make it 1-1. The Purps made their first change early on in the game as Ben Godwin went off and Callum Lee replaced him after it looked like Godwin picked up a knock from a save earlier. Stoneham didn’t stop there as they registered more attempts at goal, and the persistence paid off as just before half time they made it 2-1. Stoneham nick the ball in front of the Cowes defence, play a through ball to Hills who slots it home and gets his second of the night. HT – AFC Stoneham 2-1 Cowes Sport

Stoneham start the second half as brightly as the first, with more attempts registered. Cian Cleary has a chance to make it 3 when he goes through one on one with the keeper, he shoots but his shot is right at the goal keepers far post and knocks it out for a corner. 13 minutes into the second half Stoneham get their third of the night when from great play by Scott Hills sees a pass to the by-line is met by Nathan Clements who shoots and puts it into the back of the net great play by Stoneham. The attack keeps coming from Stoneham, as later on they are awarded a penalty after a foul on Cian Cleary by the Cowes defender, Jim Orvis takes and he makes it 4-1. Cowes Sports never gave up no matter the score line and worked throughout. Stoneham made a double substitution 67 minutes in which saw Scott Hills and Jim Orvis come off and Duarte Martins and Curtis Griffin come on. Stoneham had a few attempts after the substitution but they never really bothered the keeper for Cowes. Stoneham made their final substitution 72 minutes in which saw Liam Callaghan off and Louis Thackray on.

The changes paid off as 7 minutes later The Purps got their 5th goal of the night when Cian Cleary collects the ball on the half way line, travels and puts in a great delivery to Duarte Martins who slips it around the keeper and into the back of the net. Cowes Sports registered a few attempts in the second half but none that really caused any danger for Callum Lee in the end. In added time Stoneham finished off the game when Louis Thackray gets on the score sheet and scores his first senior goal for Stoneham on the night.

Aug 27: Blackfield 0 AFC Stoneham 1

Blackfield& Langley vs AFC Stoneham Match Report

Debut delight for Ovington, which sees him score the winning goal and earn Stoneham 3pts on the road.

Stoneham make two changes from their 2-0 win against Newport IW (FA Cup) at the weekend. We see Jamie Ovington and Nathan Clements come jn for Ben Clarke and Lewis Nagle. Purps started the first half brightly and could off gone 0-1 within 5 minutes, when Nathan Clements played a great ball in from the right, Duarte Marion’s jumps to meet but it skims his head and goes out for a goalkick. The attempts kept mounting for Stoneham when in the 28th minute Jim Orvis whips in a ball from the left hand side it meets Scott Hills who shoots but it’s just wide of the goal. Stoneham created enough in the first half but our end product in the final third wasn’t there.

Half time:- Blackfield Langley 0-0 AFC Stoneham

No changes made at halftime by the Stoneham manager and Martins kicks us off for the second half. The Purps were quick off the mark in the second half as we continued where we left off, as 13 minutes in Duarte Martins wins a free kick 30 yards out, which Jim Orvis takes he plays the ball in but nobody there is compete for the ball and its an easy save for the keeper. 59thminutes we make our first substitution of the game, Nathan Clements goes off and Lewis Nagle comes on. The substitution works as 3 minutes later Stoneham win a corner which Mat Bainbridge takes, whips a great ball in into the box Jamie Ovington is the highest and he headers it into the back of the net 0-1. Martins has a chance to make it 0-2 when he goes one on one with the keeper he shoots but it comes off the post and back into play. Martins is on the receiving of a mistimed tackle which sees the Blackfield& Langley player sinbinned and Martins substituted – Cian Cleary comes on. We make one more chance before the full time whistle which sees Lewis Nagle s left-footed drive hits the post and out for a corner.

Full Time:- Blackfield& Langley 0-1 AFC Stoneham.

Lineup:-

Lee, Pattison, Barnes, Bulpitt, Ockwell, Ovington, Clements, Orvis, Martins, Bainbridge, Hills

U16 Girls JPL - National Final

U16 Girls JPL

National JPL Final

Our girls couldn't quite cap off an unbelievable season by winning the JPL National Cup Final losing 4-1 to Haringey Girls yesterday in Cambridgeshire.

However this does not detract in anyway from an outstanding season which included a complete season undefeated to win their JPL League and being crowned Hampshire FA Cup winners beating AFC Bournemouth in the final.

Well done girls on being a huge credit to our football club both on and off the pitch all season.
