Youth Round Up - 15th December 2019

Following our first teams 2-0 victory over Fleet Town yesterday, which took the club to our highest ever league position in 100 years, today proved to be another good day at the club.

U7s has another great game with AFC Hiltingbury Hurricanes which was played in a great spirit.

Under 9 Panthers end the year on a real positive with arguably their best performance so far. The Pinder Bennett combination were at it again supported by Tyler Callaway, Eddie Angell and Maisie Leamon in a great team performance, implementing the speed of play and passing learnt in training. Purp of the match went to Eddie Angell for an outstanding creative performance.

U10 Spitfires ended the year deservedly on a high with a great game v Southbrook Storm. Boys were superb and stuck together until the end. POM went to Charlie Maguire for a very disciplined performance. Very proud of every one of these boys not just today but the whole season so far! They are a pleasure to work with!

U10 Sharks had a really close game with our U10 Panthers . This was an excellent game enjoyed by everyone. MOTM was Joel. The managers said this was a great way to finish the year. It's never been so difficult to choose a MOTM. Everyone was brilliant today. Goals from corners, freekicks, team goals. Just all round a good day for AFC Stoneham football. Great game played the right way in great spirits with a great tempo and effort from both teams. What a game!

U11 Tornadoes had a superb game against Bitterne. The best game they have played this season. everyone played amazing, the team play was so good, passing, moving, overlapping, they had everything in their game today. MOTM was Lewis, played the whole game left wing back, great creation on the ball, starting from the back getting the ball up the pitch pushing up to support attack getting back to help defence great all round football.

U12 Wolves - Oh what a game we hosted 3rd place Oakwood today and what a game of football it was! Boys been struggling to hold onto a lead for a while and today was the day we dominated from the start with our back 3 solid as a rock a cool calm keeper and the midfield supporting in both directions with our top men making themselves busy the whole game we couldn't pick a mom today as the team played as a team with each boy doing their job to perfection so everyone got it today! Leyton scored early on and in the first half the boys had to hold on to the game something they have struggled to do but with minutes left Alfie Pack smashes a rebound in to seal the boys first victory this season. Full time 2-0. Absolutely fantastic ...what a way to finish 2019!

AFC Stoneham United U13 played away at New Forest Football Academy. A brace from George Scappaticci secured a well deserved win for our team. We limited the opposition to a few chances and they did convert their penalty well - however, with us switching between two formations and then opting for a 3-5-2 in the second half it was clear we had control of the game hitting our offensive and defensive objectives collectively.

U14 Rovers - Christmas game at home v Rodaway Rovers. We laboured to a 5-3 win. Goals from Scottow (2), Montenegro and Ag’ain (2). We hit the woodwork 6 times! Man of Match Gian Ag’ain.

U14 Galaxy - A wonder goal from Ryan Dennis with 2 minutes to go salvaged a point for Galaxy against Alresford as they drew 2-2 today despite being second best for most of the game. MOTM was Frankie Way in goal who pulled off a string of excellent saves to keep the opposition out.
Reece Miller continued his fine scoring run with another confident finish.

U14 Panthers won 2 0 against Littleton. Now joint top with games in hand. Goalscorers Dylan Cross and Nathan Wilmer. MOTM Owen Diver.

U15 Rovers - Despite being on top in the first half, Rovers U15’s lost 0-3 to St Francis Youth in the last 16 of the Hants Cup. The real turning point being early in the second half when our keeper had to go off injured after a clattering challenge, leaving a centre back standing in between the posts. Man of the Match was Ben Yates, with special mentions for Callum Ramage and stand in keeper Josh Foot.

U16 Girls - Very dominant display on our debut on the home stadium today. Finished 4-0 with a great performance from our defence today Emily, Lilly, Taylor, Kayden and Lois. Aggressive attacking play with goals from Madison Payne x2, Victoria Wojcikiewicz x1 and Kaylee Buckingham x1. Opposition player of the game: Madison Payne. Managers Player of the game: Katie Pakes & Lilly Mitchell.

U16 United - Result today: Hampshire Cup. 6-2 win against Horndean Seahawks Goal scorers: Kevin - 2, Liam - 2, David - 1, 1 Own Goal. A tough, physical game today. The boys dug in and showed their desire to win the 50/50 battles all over the pitch and got what the result they deserved. Into the quarter finals of the Hampshire cup now.... UTP.

Finally our Ladies gained a superb 1-0 home win against US Portsmouth in a real "six pointer" to move joint top of the league. The vital goal was scored by Abbie Awdas on 82 minutes with the superb Sian Lodge given player of the match. Emotional manager Tommy Forbes said "A fantastic result in a great game. I am so proud of the girls and their progress this season to date has been tremendous."

Another great day at Purple HQ. Two "team of the day awards " go to our great Ladies on a fine win and our U12 Wolves who pulled off a well deserved victory .

Well done to all of our teams!

Youth Round Up - 8th December 2019

Following on from excellent victories on Saturday for our first team , Veterans, U9 Girls and U14 Girls we had another good day yesterday and all of our teams played with great PURPose as follows:

U8 Tigers had a very close game. Miles scored a hat trick MoM was Jack

U8 Panthers had an off day today however there were spell of excellence. Some fantastic runs and passing in spells! Panther of the week was Henry for his tireless work rate. Well done Henry !

Under 8 spitfires had a tight game. Unlucky not to come away winners but they didn't lose!!

MOM - Joey

U8 Royals . Little mistakes by us got punished today however the boys will learn from them & we never gave up or let our heads drop & kept trying till the last kick so we are really pleased with the performance. Goals from Felix & Alfie L. MoM was Alfie Gray, really solid defensive performance

Under 10 Falcons took on the torrential downpours today in a highly contested match against Whiteley . A resilience building experience saw us concede several goals during the rain which was sandwiched either side by some superb football. Well done boys.

U10 Panthers played some solid football against Wyvern. Some excellent interplay saw some good chances created and some good passing across the pitch. We struggled with our tackling today but something to target in training. MOTM was Sam for his two goals.

U10 Sharks had a tough game v Hiltingbury Hurricanes. Some unbelievable goal keeping today. Seriously, you wouldn't believe it!! Every shot on target went in.

😂😂 ( you are right we wouldnt believe it !!)

U10 Spitfires struggled v Soton Eagles Red however game was abandoned midway through last quarter due to extreme weather conditions. Boys never got going unfortunately today against a good passing side. Solitary goal from Jake Fluck. POM went Harley Marjason for some strong tackling and great assist for the goal

U11 Tornadoes drew 2 all against alresford town tigers. A very even match thought our opponents had chances to score more towards the end. All in all a draw was a fair result.

D Man was mom for saving all their shots in the 3rd quarter, superb performance. This allowed us to come back and draw in the final quarter.

U11 Harriers played Wellow Warriors and came out with a 4-1 win. The boys played well for large parts of the game and adapted well to the conditions and created many opportunities going forward.

Goals came from Viktor Mazik, Charley Willis & two for Josh "fearless" Fear. MOM- Cole Sheppard had a great game in defence he worked hard for the team and had good composure on the ball and distributed the ball well out from the back.

U12 Royals took an early lead and were dominating the game. Unfortunately the heavens opened and the game had to be called off after 25 minutes or else the boys would inevitably have won !!

U12 Panthers had a day to forget, going down 6-3 to Winchester Red. The boys must dust themselves down and move on quickly to get back to the performance levels of recent weeks. Scorers were Brad chirima x 2 and Max Edwards. Aaron Beesley can be proud of his display

U12 Wolves had a muddy day today 2 goals conceded with the sticky mud and slipping and sliding everywhere with lots of air kicks flying around lost 3-1 goal scored by Max and mom went to Alfie Clark -Davis

U13 Spitfires lost 7–1 to AFC Totton in game that just never went our way. Absolute worldie of a goal scored from Alex Inada-Kim. POM went to Jack Polkinghorne for not giving up and covering every blade of grass.

U13 United drew 2-2 away at Oakwood today in the most ‘levelling’ weather circumstances that we have seen this season so far, torrential downpours and high winds didn’t stop the boys from hitting today’s objectives - playing out from the back, maintaining the majority of the possession and playing deep in the opponent’s half. Unfortunately even though we had many shots in the final third and on target only two hit the back of the net. Those goals were scored by George Scappaticci and Alex Ingledew-Coak.

U14 Hawks beat the reigning division 1 champions Sarisbury 2-1 at home. With goals from Tarun Takhar and Charlie Hawes. MOTM was Kyle Podolanski. An excellent win . Well done boys!!

Goal of the game was converted by the ever excellent Ali Djeli.

A brace was scored by Ryan Dennis . MOM went to Reece Miller who , in addition to scoring 2 also had the assist for the other 3 Galaxy goals. Up the Purps!!

U15’s Rovers, not able to get their passing game going today, lost 0-3 at home to top of the table Botley Village. Man of the Match was Sam Charman.

U15’s Division 3

Stoneham Spitfires 1

Colden Common 1

Another top of the table clash. We played well in spells but both teams looked a bit nervous, and the game got flat at times. A draw was a fair result, although our goalkeeper saved us in the last minute.

Goal scorer, Harvey ( goal machine) Eccleston ...(who else?!!!)

MOM, Alex Hyde, wonder save in the last minute to keep us unbeaten in the league.

Brockenhurst 0 AFC Stoneham 1 - 7th December 2019

Roger Allen writes

BROCKENHURST 0-1 AFC STONEHAM

This was the first meeting between these two sides for a very long time but Brockenhurst will not have met an opposition that was prepared to work so hard to get a well-earned victory.

The goal that won the game came early in the 10th minute and was well worked. Alex Welch won the ball close to the right corner flag and fed the ball along the line to Marcel Laptas. He floated a ball to the far post where Callum LAYCOCK was unmarked and was left with a simple header. Seconds later Stoneham had a penalty shout that was turned down by the referee.

The game settled with even possession but Stoneham were able to cope with the home side's attacks and central defenders Matt Palmer and Ben Clarke were outstanding all afternoon. For their part, Stoneham carried a little more threat as they worked the wings to make progress.

The best chance for the remainder of the half fell to Laycock after a neat turn and shot that Brock keeper Jon Webb saved with his feet.

HT 0-1

The second half had more goalmouth incidents, the first of which fell to Edu Jiminez whose shot was touched over by Webb. At the other end Will Tickle, who had come on as a substitute at half time, floated over a cross-come-shot that drifted just wide of the far post.

On 70 minutes Stoneham were reduced to 10 men when Will Wiseman committed a foul that drew a second yellow card. From the resulting free-kick Stoneham's defence held firm despite having to make two goal-line saves.

As time began to run out the home side made one last push for an equaliser as both Jude Nwachukwu and Pat Wilson headed wide. They had one last chance as Mitch Speechley-Price pounced on a back pass but in taking it wide around the keeper he ran out of room.

FT 0-1

Purps in Africa

AFC Stoneham is very proud to be able to support underprivileged children in Africa.

Earlier in the year, we supported first-team player Will Wiseman as he undertook a coaching trip to deprived areas of Kenya.

Yesterday friend of the club, Adrian Harris, was delighted to present the big smile community project in Sowetto with old AFC Stoneham kit, water bottles and kit bags. Great to see our club badge and colours with big smiles so far away.

Hamble Club 0 AFC Stoneham 2 - 2nd December 2019

This was another excellent win against 4th placed Hamble secured with 2nd half goals from Matt Palmer and Edu Jiminez.

We missed 2 good opportunities in the first half which we just shaded but secured the points in the 2nd half with a resolute performance after Palmer had given us the lead on 51 mins. The boys had to defend well for large chunks of the 2nd half without Hamble having a number of chances and the points were deservedly sealed on 87 mins when Jiminez raced away from the home defence to calmly slot home.

This leaves us with only 1 defeat in the last 10 games and 2nd in the table at almost the halfway stage of the season. Quite amazing when one considers we were many peoples favourites for relegation during the summer having lost top scorers the mercurial Sergio Caballero and Jack Brady from last season.

There is a very long way to go and the boys will not be complacent however they have hopefully already proved that they deserve to be playing at the higher level having gained promotion at the end of last season.

U12 Wolves derby day and was very much a game of 2 halves the Wolves having the best of the chances in first half with Panthers holding most of the changes in the second half with some great football shown on both sides and some first-class goalkeeping from Joe Deas in between the sticks for the Wolves pulling save after save even saving a penalty some would say he won the game for us today holding on in there for a very well deserved point.

Both teams were excellent and were a big credit to our club. Mom was no contest today for the Wolves Joe Deas take a bow! Very well deserved.

U15 Rovers put in a great performance beating Oakwood Forresters 7-0 in the League. A fantastic all-round effort, battling when needed and lovely use of the ball than our opponents couldn’t cope with. Goals from Finnian Baker 2, Charlie Hewson 2, Ben Yates, Joe Ryan and Val Daskalov. Man of the Match was Shafi Mirzaie.

U15 Stoneham Spitfires 8 City Central 2

City Central were top of the league before kick-off however our boys dominated the game on a very small pitch. Goalscorers were

MOM Jamie Vowles. Superb in the middle of the pitch.

Very difficult to pick one team as "Purple team of the day " as there were so many outstanding results and performances. So we have picked 3!

U12 Royals, U14 Hawks and U15 Rovers for brilliant results !!

Well done to all of our teams on a great weekend!

First Team Round Up

Last week brought our first team a seven-point haul from a possible nine in the Sydenhams Wessex premier league.

Last Saturday we made the long trip to Shaftesbury and returned with a well deserved 3-1 away win with goals from Cal Laycock (2) and Scott Hills. We then made another long trip to Hamworthy on Tuesday night returning with a well-earned point in a 2-2 draw having been two down at half time. If not for a miraculous point-blank save from the home keeper and a goalmouth scramble in the last minute we would have taken all three points. Cal Laycock reduced the deficit and Edu Jiminez equalised with a 30-yard thunderbolt.

On Saturday we beat an in form Fareham Town 3-1 at home having been one down on 16 minutes. Despite atrocious conditions, we continued to try and get the ball on the floor and play our football resulting in goals for Edu Jiminez, Scott Hills and young Nathan Clements his first for the club since joining from Eastleigh.

Goals from Aaron Golding (3), Harry Jones, Harry Hallet, George Scappaticci and Ryan Pratt scoring his first goal this season on his birthday capped off a great performance from the lads!

Going into the halfway point of the season at a point where Ryan’s goal now means that every single one of our 13 outfield players have scored this season already means we are exactly where we need to be in line with our team philosophy of players playing in multiple positions to have a better understanding of the total game of football. Well done boys.

U14 Galaxy despite improving through the game lost 4-2 against Sholing White. Man of the match Ali Djeli scored a beauty and Sam Smaili added from the spot.

Some great results today especially the super U9 Jaguars.

Our teams of the day though are awarded to two of our teams who have displayed outstanding sportsmanship today. U12 Panthers and U9 Lions.

Our U12 Panthers have been awarded a 100% Respect mark season to date for conduct both on and off the pitch.

Our U9 Lions, aware that the other team had a player short, played with the same number of players and/or completed a "quick transfer" to ensure both teams had equal numbers. A fantastic sporting gesture.

We love to win but respect, great sportsmanship and fair play are great attributes which will last a lifetime with our young players. Well done to all of our young teams on another great "Purple weekend"!

Super U9 Girls

Wonderful photos from our super U9 Girls this morning who played Southbrook. They had a great day as the photos show!

AFC Stoneham Utd U16. 11 - 1 Sarisbury Sparks

Goalscorers were: Kevin Ngombi 3 Charlie Godfrey 1 David Gkika 4 Carlos Gregory 1 Joe Hampton 1 Oliver Ingram 1.

Disappointed by the goal conceded and the manor of the performance after half time. Discussed standards and expectations to ensure the boys play 100% in every game!

U16 Panthers lost 8-1 in the Hampshire Cup to Cowplain.

All of our teams enjoyed themselves today in varying degrees however it was important that they all held a minutes silence and remembered those brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice so they could enjoy today .

Lest we forget.

New Ground Update

We are hopeful of the whole club moving to our new ground in early December although we will also be keeping our current ground and floodlights until at least September 2020 to allow us to play matches on grass as the grass pitches at the new facility will not be available until then.

The delay is due to SSE having to build a new sub-station which will then allow for the floodlights to work and the commissioning of the whole site, which will take another 2 weeks, prior to the handover from the contractor to Eastleigh BC which then allows us to fully move in as the partner club.

Some of our young teams have already been playing on the Stadia pitch and outside community pitches on a Sunday with all feedback to date has been very positive.

Following the installation of seats and main turnstile in our club colours of Purple, we were delighted to see the arrival of our Purple bike shed this week as well!
