About Us
AFC Stoneham is the largest grassroots football club in the South of England and third largest in the UK. We have 145 teams, 1700 players and 500 managers and coaches. A report commissioned in 2025 showed that our club contributed over £6.5m in social value to our local community.
The club was formed in 1919 and our teams today range from our minnows teams to our senior first teams with our men competing in the Wessex Premier League and ladies in the Southern Regional League. We also run our own Player Development Centre, FA Wildcats Centre for girls and a Saturday Morning Fun Club for children aged 4-10 along with various community projects under our new AFC Stoneham in the Community banner.
We offer a structured player pathway into both our male and female senior teams whilst also offering football to all ages and abilities with a big focus and commitment to our ever-growing youth structure where we have grown the number of female teams from 2 to 34 in fIve years.
We believe that the game is a vehicle to teach our young players both life lessons and disciplines through team sport which hopefully they will utilise throughout their lives as they progress and develop.
The club has a rich history including recently winning and retaining the Southampton Senior Cup in 2012 and 2013 whilst winning the Hampshire League Cup final in 2015 prior to being promoted to the Sydenhams Wessex League. The club finished 8th during our first two seasons in the Wessex League and 5th during the 17/18 season.
Our 100th year during the 18/19 season proved to be historic as we won the Wessex League Division One title. We also had a great FA Cup run, our first season in the competition, which helped raise the profile of the club whilst also reaching the Final of the Southampton Senior Cup at St Mary's Stadium.
Although 2019/20 was our first season in the Premier Division during our 100 year history the season was sadly curtailed due to the Covid Pandemic as was the 2020/21 season.
Over the two covid effected seasons we were 3rd in the points per game table over 43 games which allowed us to apply to the FA for promotion to Step 4 football (Southern league) which we just missed out on. Our Ladies completed the 2020/21 season only losing one league game and progressed to the national womens pyramid via the Southern Combination league.
The club won 32 trophies during the 21/22 season including four for our Development Squad who had a tremendous season winning all of the competitions they entered bar one. Our U18 Athletic completed the treble and our U18 Girls did the double and only lost in the final of the JPL National Cup to Harringay having beaten West Ham United in the semi final.
Our first team finished 5th in the Wessex Premier league during season 21/22 which was our first full season at Step 5 level whilst our Ladies first team finished 4th in their first season in the Womens Southern Regional league.
The last three seasons have seen our men go very close to achieving promotion amassing an outstanding 95 points during two of those seasons and 91 in the other only to miss out by goal difference on the last day of the 22/23 season and in the play offs in both the 23/24 and 24/25 seasons having finished second in both seasons. We did have the consolation of winning the Hampshire FA Russell Cotes Cup in 22/23.
Although we missed out on promotion in 2024/25 we only lost one league all season and reached three cup finals winning both the Southampton Senior cup at St Marys and the Hampshire Senior cup for the first time in our 106 year history.
We all look forward to the new season which promises to be another great season full of further progress for our club.
